After three weeks, our number ported from Verizon to Vonage and works great. Now, however, when I make an outgoing call, the caller ID on the other side has our number, but instead of "John Doe" has the no name "Out of Area."
Is this to be expected? Is there something I should do to get our name back on caller ID (like it used to be with Verizon)?
Thanks. |

Yup. Vonage doesn't "do" names on caller ID.

No. See #1.
Someday, maybe, Vonage will allow you to set what YOU want to appear on Caller ID, but right now they don't publish your name in a phone book database like a "normal" telephone company.
The good news is that your number, under Vonage, is harder for telemarketers to get, since it isn't on a dialing list. Of course, if your number has already been harvested off the Verizon list, it's too late.
The bad news is that your name doesn't appear on Caller ID, since it isn't on a public list. |

Thanks. A relatively small price to pay for what so far has been a good package at a good price (but it would be nice if they could!). |

I am not sure how many of you have been following the news about Vonage and the deployment of vonage-forum.com&q=Sonus&sa=Search&sitesearch=vonage-forum.com&client=pub-9384837557811734&forid=1&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&cof=GALT%3A%23008000%3BGL%3A1%3BDIV%3A%23336699%3BVLC%3A663399%3BAH%3Aleft%3BBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BLBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BALC%3A0000FF%3BLC%3A0000FF%3BT%3A000000%3BGFNT%3A0000FF%3BGIMP%3A0000FF%3BLH%3A34%3BLW%3A225%3BL%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.vonage-forum.com%2Fthemes%2Fbluebyu%2Fimages%2Flogo.gif%3BS%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.vonage-forum.com%3BFORID%3A1%3B&hl=en" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="postlink">Sonus switches in Vonage's New York and LA facilities, but this is carrier grade equipment that I assume will replace and/or enhance Vonage's home grown platform.
Bottom line is, expect Vonage services to perform much more like RBOC industry standards in the near future. |

Well, gee, with over 1 million customers, you would have thought they would have already been doing this or at least planning for it BEFORE NOW! Thanks Dan. |

If you read the news articles carefully, the deployment began more than a year ago, but was only just made public. |
