Does Vonage over deals for companies with several phones (numbers and offices) needing service?

I wish they did! I would love to see a "virtual PBX" service from Vonage where they would offer an auto-attendant and multiple extensions. Would be very easy (for Vonage) to do!

Yeah...dont think it will ever happen though. Once I get some money together to setup an asterisk machine I may have to switch providers since Vonage does not offer SIP accounts with a bring your own device scenario.

Oh I WISH I had the knowledge to setup an asterisk box. I would LOVE to dabble in that!

Not really that hard. I setup both asterisk which is kinda a pain with the config files and Asterisk@Home which is all you really need if you dont have a business. I kinda liked the Asterisk@Home since it has a nice web based setup that was simple to setup.

I hear you can get them going with Vonage but it is a pain. If Vonage would just give you your SIP username and password and a server to connect to you would not even need an ATA.

Im not really sure how it works, I wonder if it is because you could have multiple logins. Therefore everyone in your family could use the same account.

I doubt it is that way though. Probley one login per line at one time.

WOW! I never knew about "Asterisk@Home". This is GREAT. What's the downside? I mean, why not take advantage of the convenience of Asterisk@Home and use in a small office?

There is really no downside. Asterisk would be for a midsized to large office. Where asterisk@home would be for home or small office. I was going to say that earlier but I didnt want to edit my post Very Happy

Asterisk @ Home comes on a nice self installing ISO too. Just setup your asterisk box, pop in the CD and it gets to installing. Your box is up and running in about 30 mins and ready to configure.

I seen some nice boxes with asterisk@home preinstalled and all the cards and stuff you need for it on ebay.

Thank you again for the lead, Kevin. Last night I configured a Asterisk@Home system for experimentation. I haven't gotten the X-Lite softphone working YET, but it's fun playing with it. Any chance we could chat sometime about Voip? I have a lot of questions and would like to speak withs omebody who knows what they're doin!

Don't let the name fool you, Asterisk @ Home is perfectly capable of running a business system. I have a 24 extension system working rather nicely. I've only had it going for a month or so, but no major issues thus far. We're using it as a way of gaining more extensions out of an existing phone system without the cost of expensive system phones. Using mostly analog adapters, 'though there is 1 IP phone on the system for experimentation, no Voip lines, just POTS & PBX lines feeding into it.

Okay, I realize we're getting a little off topic here, so please bear with me. I am very exited about what the potential application of Asterisk@Home could mean for a small business such as the onw I work for. I have an experimental "demo-box" up and running GREAT (thanks, Kevin!) I'm curious - is there a less-technical "User's Guide" that's written not so much for the IT guy installing it, but more for the users (how to check VM, how to forward a call, etc.) I can't find ANY end-user docs. (?)

Thanks,
-Brian
