I started on Vonage about a year ago and have put up with the background hiss on my WRT54GP2 for a year now, but it's really starting to bug me and wondered
A. is there a better way to fix it &
B. what's the ideal setup (wireless router & Vonage phone device).

I have tried hooking up a corded phone to line 2 on my GP2 but there is still significant hissing on calls. Here are my details:
1. Mpls, MN
2. Comcast Cable
3. 3MB down 371 up
4. Motorola Surfboard SB5120
5. Linksys WRT54GP2 firmware 1.30.01
6. Modem - Linksys - Phone/PC - only using line 1, line 2 has the corded phone to try to reduce noise
7. Issue: Lots of background hissing during calls, very annoying

Your packet discards and losses are quite high, both directions. Try eliminating the router, plugging your computer directly into the modem, and re-running the test. Please post the results.

I believe the "hiss" is the same issue that was very hot here a while back. When I first got my WRT54GP2 I had the same noise on my phone. I had Linksys replace my router twice before I finally received one where they had fixed the issue. If your device is still under warranty then you should contact Linksys and have them replace the router since this is a hardware issue and cannot be solved with a firmware upgrade.

ANother possible solution that has worked for many here is to connect a corded phone to line 2 on your router and leave that phone "off the hook".
