HI,
I have configured my account to save bandwidth at 30kbps. However, I noted that for 12 hours of vonage usage, my phone used up about 300 Mbytes of data (upload + download).
I am with an ISP which charges me based on bandwidth usage and hence wanted to optimzie bandwidth.
Looks like the bandwidth save is not working as expected at 30 kbps, which should give me about 72 hours of talk time. I called the vonage tech support and the 1st and 2nd line support folks could not understand the problem at all and suggested me to report a bug.
thanks

Your actual rate can depend on your packetization, Vonage default is 20 msec.
The actual usage* in one direction for the 30kbps setting varies depending on your Internet connection type.
31,200 bps Ethernet (cable)
42,400 bps DSL
If my math is correct...
That results in 3.9 to 5.3 kilobytes/sec in each direction.
The maximum traffic for 12 hours of usage in two directions would be approximately 330 Megabytes to 445 Megabytes excluding the non-call VoIP overhead (signalling, registering, etc.).
It appears to me that your usage is just about right. We you expecting 72 hours instead of 12? Did you interpret kbps as kilobytes per second and not kilobits per second?
