Post subject: DHCP problem with Cisco PIX Firewall
My company uses
Vonage
and I discovered that the Motorola devices sent by
Vonage
were not able to receive a IP address via DHCP from the Cisco PIX Firewall used in my office.
I had to manually assign IP address to the Motorola devices and that solved the problem.
I brought home a unit and plugged it into my home Linksys router and DHCP worked.
Does anyone know if this is a know issue?

I ran into a similar problem with my setup. I am running
Vonage
using the following:
Efficient Networks 5861 Business DSL Router (NAT w/no port forwarding)
Cisco Catalyst 2950T-24-EMI with IOS 12.2 (IOS DHCP Services Enabled)
Motorola VT1005 20_1.16e
reviewing my logs the IOS DHCP server takes about 2 min to hand out an IP address. Its how Cisco implements DHCP because even my other devices on the lan are slow as well. Although I have also seen slow DHCP address acknowledgement from the motorola connected to other DHCP servers as well. My belief is it is a mismatch of bad code between the motorola and the cisco.
One thing to note: my cisco probes the line using CDP and tunes for voice and that adds a few more seconds to the startup of the mot box causing it to fail from a cold boot from time to time. Once connected if you did not recieve an IP address the mot box should try again and succeed. this only takes a few minutes.
If the VT1005 is from the same people who brought the BitSurfr and BitSurfr PRO (MIMS/ISG) they will continue to work hard and perfect the code.

Post subject: Ditto here w/PIX 501
I have a PIX 501 running 6.3(3) and while the PIX does register the DHCP lease and it shows up in the arp cache, the IP of the moto cannot be pinged. I'll try hard coding it also.
