I just got a phone with a voice mail indicator. Problem is that its always flashing, even when I don't have a voicemail.
My stuter dialtone is working - it only comes on when I have a message. I'm assuming that fsck is trigering the VMWI.
Is this a widespread problem? I've seen a couple of posts saying it was a known problem. I figured it could use its own thread.
Should I contact Vonage tech support, or are they working on it already?
Thanks,
--Barry |

FIrst, verify that your phone is configured to use the stutter-tone as the voicemail indicator. If that is the case and the phone shows the VMWI light even when there is no stutter-tone then I would say there is something wrong with your phone. |

My phone will always use fsck for VMWI if it is sent. Stuter tone detection can be turned on or off, but fsck can't.
I have tried leaving a message, then deleting it and exiting with the '*' key. It doesn't help.
Can anyone confirm that this is a known bug, and is in the process of being fixed? Anyone have an ETA on the fix? |

If the stutter-tone is functioning properly then there is no "bug" since Vonage does not support FSK. It would seem that either your phone is not compatible with Vonage or there is something wrong with your phone.
Do you currently have stutter-tone detection enabled on your phone? |

I think the phone is OK. As far as I can tell, Vonage is sending FSK. See the following posts: post post |

I have the same problem intermittently on my phone. I'll get a voice mail and then the blinker on my phone just keeps on blinking, even though the stutter is gone. It's been blinking now for about 3 days.
It doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong with your phone. |

I've been having the same problem and have posted in a couple of other places, hoping that someone could help. Well, you know what they say -- God helps those who help themselves. javascript:emoticon(' ') Go into your setup options and see if there is an option to clear messages waiting. That's what I did and the light went out. YAY!! |

Since posts on this thread share my VMWI frustrations with the TRU8866, I thought I would post what I have figured out so far.
While a call is in progress on either of the 8866's two lines, the 8866 fails to receive FSK signaling on the OTHER line. As a result, that other line's voicemail indicator fails to turn on (or off).
Since I can't rely on the indicator (either way), I have to periodically listen to both Stutter Dial Tones for the real message status. The indicator is only correctly updated long after the call is terminated when another redundant FSK signal is sent to the phone (often hours later).
I bought my 8866 in Sep 04 (serial # AE80017077) and I thought Uniden may have fixed it since then. I've sent this info to Uniden email support and got nowhere. They now sell it as the B-TRU8866, but I don't know the difference. I'd replace my base unit if I knew it would fix the problem. Other than this flaw, my 8866 system works well. Unfortunately I invested in 8 additional handsets before I found the flaw or I would have tossed it by now.
Hopefully this info may help some of you and if anyone has any advice to offer, I would appreciate it.

yes, unless something has changed Vonage does support fsk as referenced in my earlier posts. it used to be on the support section of vonage.com, but now I only see it in a few press releases. I do see DTMF caller id which I've never heard of... |
