PostPosted: Tue Jan 10, 2006 10:37 am    Post subject: Broadband Speed Test Sites Reply with quote Back to top

I've been attempting to find my true broadband speed. I've been to two sites and get drastically different readings. When I go to http://myspeed.visualware.com/voip/ Download is 1.03Mbps Upload 368 Kbps. When I go to http://www.wugnet.com/myspeed/speedtest.asp Download 5.98 Mbps Upload 423 Kbps.

Anyone know of a trustworthy Site to do a test?

Most test sites are all over the board for me as well. Here's a few that I use. The one for Charter is in Michigan, so you'll probably get a pretty accurate speed for them. Speakeasy has several you can test from all over the US.

Thanks Talk4Cheap

Tried each one http://speedtest.chartermi.net/ D 6.23 Mpbs U 373.01 http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ D 5789 Kbps U 359 Kbps ...... all over the board also... Guess one would do several and get the closest estimate.

Again Thank you

I've found www.dslreports.com/stest to be pretty good.

No matter which site you use, the results will vary. That's just the nature of the Internet and to a lesser extent, your ISP. You may have noticed that at certain times of the day, your connection can really slow down (rush hour) and at other times everything is as advertised (non peak hours).

If you are really interested in how your connection is, I'd suggest something like: Line Speed Meter which checks your speed over time as well as giving you DNS resolution and latency figures. If you run it for a few weeks, you'll get a much more realistic result than just spot checking with the sites previously mentioned.

Good luck

I dont' think the Yahoo/SBC test site is very acurate. I got 16Mpbs! That's impossible from my house!

Eek Thats Fast maha !
I tested at all the above mentioned sites. My estimate is a 5.0 Mbps Download and a 380 Kbps Upload Which from reading info. on is a pretty good bandwidth speed. Also installed the Line Meter V3.0 too keep tabs on times it might slow down and any Voip connection issues that may arise again.

Thanks for all the responses
