He indicated that he's keeping one POTS line. I assume that's the one with the DSL. |

Thanks for all of the feedback so far. It has been helpful, specially in knowing what to watch out for.
So, is there any way to have "both" the unit with built-in vonage and an additional adapter for home wiring?
For example if I wanted to get the Vtech unit that has built-in vonage... and I also wanted to have an adapter to connect to the home wiring, is that not possible? Maybe I'm asking for too much
I guess the best solution is just to use the normal adapter + home wiring + conventional phones, and forego the Vtech system... but I was hoping I could use that system as well.

that would result in having 2 accounts with 2 phone numbers. I don't think that's what you want.
I guess what is so attractive about the IP phone that you cannot get with a conventional one these days? My Panasonic cordless is great and has everything I need including CID, Message Indicator, etc. |

I see what you mean. But a conventional cordless, which has message indicator as you mentioned... how does that integrate with vonage (the message indicator, I mean). Does your message indicator actually work with the vonage voicemail system? And can it be setup with a one-touch connection to the voicemail system?
Thanks

yes it works very well. I have not had any problems with it. It works in two ways. The Vonage adapter would send a signal to my phone and the "Message Waiting" message comes on my LCD. Also when I turn on the phone to call, a stutter tone can be heard which also means a message is waiting.
My panasonic (I don't have the model number with me at work but I can give it to you from home later) also has a voicemail access item in its menu that lets me program in *123PPXXXXPP11 where the *123 is the access to voicemail from your home phone the "P" tells the phone to wait for 3 secs or something like that. XXXX is my pin and then 11 is what needs to be pressed to hear the message.
So when I tell the phone to call vm, I just need to select it on my menu and it does the dialing for me automatically. The phone I got automatically turns on the speaker phone when I access my vm so I don't even have to hold onto the handset.
I believe these features are widely available now on cordless systems.
There are two issues that I have ran into on occassion.
1. When you are done listening to the vm, you can delete it by hitting 3 and then you should hit * to exit the system. Sometimes, the phone still says message waiting if I don't do it.
2. When I call in, sometimes it takes the system a bit longer than normal and I have to manually punch in my PIN etc.
But these are rare instances and do not happen regularly with me.
A minor inconvenience which I can easily overcome.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you want that model number. It's a 2.4 GHz system. Also, the phone battery is NiMH which is a much better battery than the usual NiCd batteries. |

I have a Panasonic 2.4 GHz phone model # KX-TG2312. I purchased it at Best Buy about 1.5 years ago. I hope they still make it or make something similar. |
