hey, my computer went for a big crapperoo today, so I formatted and re-installed evrything, install actually went smooth for once too..
anyways, now, when i am viewing a page in IE, and I click a link that opens in a new window, it closes the original window.. this is VERY annoying.. I have never had this issue before, so i'm just wondering if anyone knows how to fix it?
I'm using Windows ME (I Know, I know, don't tell me to get XP) and IE6, I just finished installing all the windows updates and everything..
this has never happened before, but it does it on every dite that opens a link in a new window..
any idea's? thanks |

Try posting in this forum http://www.dslreports.com/forum/microsoft . If you don't have an account with them, you can post anonymously if you don't want to register. Lots of people are on that site and you would get help quicker than here I believe. |

No Guarantees, but try opening IE and than click on Tools/Internet options. Next click on the Advanced Tab and than be sure there is a check in the box next to, "Reuse window for launching shortcuts". Click OK and than close IE. Restart IE and see if your problem is solved.
If that does not solve your problem repeat the above steps until you get to the Advanced tab and then click on Restore Defaults. Next click OK and again restart IE and see if that corrects your problem.
Worst case you wasted 2 minutes. Best case the problem is solved. |

You need to dump the ME. Seriously. That thing is the biggest security risk and "holy" software. Microsoft did a real good job of making sure ME was a big piece of crap. You know you can go on Walmart.com and get a OEM full version of XP Home for like $100? It's worth it. Really. |

Go to add/remove programs and tell it to uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer And Internet Tools. A box will pop up next with the option to repair instead of remove. Click the "Repair" option. Good Luck!!! |

Not to get a flame war going, but have you tried Firefox? I've never tried it with anything but Win2K so I can't say how it will go with ME. I guess if you visit a lot of highly specialized microsoft/IE it might be a problem but I've found it to be OK. |

chick is right, and why would think you would need to repair anything for a small configuration issue in IE? |

but that issue did not require a repair... it was a simple configuration issue. |
