Well I was playing around with FWD (Free World Dialup) today and realized that I can have it forward calls to my Vonage line. Im not real good with writing instructions but here it goes.

1) If you have dynamic ip you would want to sign up for a dynamic IP service such as http://www.dyndns.org/ which is free. I just made my address something like sip123.ath.cx for example here.

2) Sign up for a FWD account at http://www.freeworlddialup.com/ which will assign you a FWD # such as 123456. Next you will want to go to the myFWD tab and sign into your account. From there go to the extra features section. Scroll down to the permnant forwarding section and enter your info from your dyndns or your static dns like this

sip:18135551212@sip123.ath.cx:5061

the 18135551212 would be replaced by your Vonage number and the sip123.ath.cx would be replaced by whatever dyndns address you have.

and then click submit.

4) Then you can have a local number anywhere on this list.
http://www.freeworlddialup.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3743&highlight=pstn+fwd

You will dial the number for example 973-494-5586 and then press 2 and enter your FWD # such as 123456# and your Vonage phone will ring Smile

It may take about 10 mins for the system to pickup on your new number in order to dial it.

Also I signed up for a second FWD # and have XTen's eyeBeam softphone working. So in my signature if you were to dial that number you would make my softphone ring.

The port 5061 works on my RT31P2...the port setting may be 5060 on other ATA/Routers.

Anyway something I have been playing with for 2 days and its kinda fun....figured I would share it Very Happy

Hehe...still have 3 1/2 more hours until Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat Washington so I guess I will try installing asterisk win32 for my softphone.

Thanks for the info! I got family in Israel and Australia and would be sweet if this works.

I set up the dyndns account...set up the FWD account. I don't think port 5061 works with the RTP300, so I put it at 5060 and will try again in twenty minutes.

Anyone else got this to work? great tutorial!

Like I said I know the SIP port for the rt31p2 is 5061...i dont know about other adapters. I see they have various Australia local numbers so this might work well for you. You might have to do some googling to find a local number in Israel.

I'm defintly having problems somewere along the line. I set up the dnydns...and I can verify that it works ok. I configured my router to work with it. My phone adapter is connected to the router, so I put the phone adapter on the DMZ...works fine with calls.

I set up my call forwarding to sip:12155555555@gatfamily.is-a-geek.com:5061
(real phone number omitted)

I was the FWD account page and they have a "call me" feature. So I used that. I see the internet light blinking on my phone adapter a couple seconds later...but no call. I tried actually calling using the number you listed in this thread...it doesn't seem to recognize my FWD number. In fact, when I went to the "missed calls" in the FWD page and click on the calls, it says "account number error contact webmaster"...so I think my account isn't working right.

And yep...I did try putting the phone adapter first before my router and got the same problem.

So I'm going to see if I can contact there webmaster...funny how it's not easy to find a contact email there.

Will keep trying...this sounds like a fun challenge.
