Here's the poop...

Lost internet connection and telephone connection.

Plugged my computer directly to he cable modem and got the web.

Plugged in RT31P2 and still had internet, but still no phone

Plugged in Belkin wireless router lost internet, tried cable modem to Belkin to computer, no web.

Talked to Vonage support and after checking many things, they told me my RT31P2 was bad, send the $99 and they would send me a Linksys RTP300 router.

Here is the question (finally, eh)

It looks like I must have gotten a power surge or something that knocked out both pieces. I need some combination of wireless router and Vonage router, I don't care if they are 1 piece or 2 pieces.

Best Buy has the PAP2 for $60, RT31P2 for $90 and WRTP54G for $130. (All get me a $25 gift card)

Circuit Cuty has the VT1005V $80 it has some rebates as well

The first 2 do not have wireless, the last one does. I can pick up a wireless router reasonably cheap, my biggest concern is getting something reliable and quick, I don't have phone service right now.

What are the suggestions.

SN95

PS... Have they fixed the problem with theRT31P2, currently I have to have a second phone plugged into it to get rid of white noise.

I don't have any suggestions for hardware, but beware the rebates. They are usually only available if you sign up for brand new service, not if you're adding or replacing a device on established service.

You may want to search on ebay for some good deals. I know I just sent my VT1005 to a high bidder for a whopping $15.00 (that included shipping). I was trying to get more, but guess it's not a hot item. It worked great for me for the past 15 months - I replaced it with the VTech adapter/cordless phone combo.

I have no personal experience with wireless, but the WRTP54G has gotten some fairly poor comments in the forum. Do a search and pay particular attention to what NateHoy has to say.

Nver get the WRT54G the Processor that Linksys makes for the box is very weak and cannot handle much of a load on it. I would reccomend getting the RTP300. Rebates are only good for new account signups.

Time was critical, wife was getting frustrated by the situation. She actually suggested seeing waht Sams Club had. They had the PAP2 for $40 without rebates. I also got a Belkin router (I have always been happy with Belkin products). I am back up and running.

I read some comments about the sick ringing sound with some routers, I had that with my RT31P2, no more with the PAP2. Only time will tell, but hopefully I won't have any issues with this router.

Thanks for the advice, especially about the wireless router.
