We'll try to help, but we can't do it in the dark. Start by posting the information you see listed here.

Has it ever worked? Have you talked to customer support?

Hi, I need help. I signed on to Vonage on Dec 11, 2005. I have not had a chance to use the service because it hasn't worked for more then one day (Dec 29). Below is the information regarding my setup. I sure hope you can help. I appreciate your time and consideration.

Sue Lender

1. My location: Southern California, USA

2. Your ISP name and type: Charter Pipeline, Cable

3. Upload and download speeds: Download 1,486,776.bps ; upload 90,040 bps ; QOS 98% ; RTT 47 ms ; MaxPause 32 ms

4. Modem make and model: Motorola Surfboard SB4200

5. Type of Vonage adapter: PAP2

6. Setup of Network: Modem ------> Linksys WRT54G -----> port 1 -> PC, port 2 -> linksys PAP2

7. Issue you are experiencing: No dial tone. Had a dial tone when PAP2 was first activated, I activated it using Vonage website. Dial tone lasted approximately one day. Have tried using PAP2 without router, still no dial tone.

8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston.

First off, have you tried re-cycling the whole system? If not, shut everything down, then power up in the correct order (modem, wait, WRT, wait, PAP, computer). Does that get a dial tone back? Re-cycling solves many problems.

You have a couple of potential issues. The fact that you got dial tone at first indicates that your basic setup is good, but your upload speed is marginal. Setting the bandwidth lower on the web site might help, but the fact that you're not even getting dial tone is discouraging. Still, it's worth a try. You also have a lot of packet discards on the uplink, and that could explain your problem. Is your cable provider giving you all the speed that you're paying for? A talk with them could be in order. If they can't help, a call to Vonage customer service is definitely in order.

If there is a firewall in the WRT54G diable it. Is this the X2? or x4? These have firewalls the kill the PAP2's speaking ability.

Again do what Steve said and power down your entire network for 3 minutes, then power back up again. Wait 3 minutes for boot up and see if you get a dial tone.

I have re-cycled the whole system many times, but did it again, just in case. Confused Lowered my bandwidth to lowest setting. Turned off the router firewall (PAP2 does not work with or without the router). Still no dial tone, no line lights, just the pap2 lady telling me to try another port. Yes, I've tried both ports.

So I guess I'm back to Vonage Customer Service... oh, I mean Care. Eek

Thx for the help, Very appreciated!

Sue

Don't forget the packet discard issue. Calling Vonage is good, but I really think that you'll want to talk to your ISP as well.
