Make sure if there are any firewalls in the routers they are disabled. And yes the only way to make your VPN work will be by going through your initial router first.

Are you MAC cloning at all with any of the routers?

Nope - MAC cloning is disabled in both units. MAC filtering (for securing the wireless unit) is enabled and working properly; I've checked that several times.....

Thanks again!

I had some problems with the VPN settings on my RTP300 - it didn't pass VPN traffic through despite the fact that I had put that setting on. It might have been because I wasn't using the standard MS VPN protocol, but still.

Instead, I found that I could make the machine that I was VPNing from the DMZ machine and that worked. Of course, doing that means you'll lose the protection of the firewall.

Upshot is: if you're using a VPN I would try to do what other people on this thread are telling you about: just put the RTP 300 behind your firewall/router and don't hang anything off it.

Just another note on this. When I first got Vonage I couldn't put the Voip adapter as the first piece in my network and connect to my company's vpn. It would work if the Vonage box was connected off of the router but not when I put it in between the cable modem and the router. The problem turned out to be that the Vonage box ( one of the old Motorola boxes, I can't remember the number ) can't pass IPSec which was needed by the VPN. I solved the problem by switching my VPN software from IPSec to SSL. This allows the Vonage box to be ahead of the router and I've been working like this for over a year.

I have tried on several occassions to swap the connections, thus making the wireless G (version 3, I believe) the point of entry for my internet connection (in the internet port). Via ethernet, I have the Vonage router hanging off that. My home PC is connected to the WRT54G. My PC works as it's connected to the WRT54G - as you can tell by this posting - but the Vonage phone line will not come up. However, curiously, my PC keeps "blinking" (the desktop icons reset, the system tray is not loaded and the screen literaly blinks every 10-12 seconds). I've even let the Vonage router sit for a few minutes per a previous poster and that failed. DHCP was disabled in the Vonage router, and enabled in the WRT54G. Both were power cycled seperately (first the Vonage router, then the WRT54G as well as the PC).

I haven't tried the VPN as I'm in worse shape now than the previous config (Vonage router as the entry point). It doesn't make sense that this is failing; I thought for sure this would work but numerous attempts have proven otherwise..... Back to the drawing board.

Thoroughly disgusted,
++ Paul
