PostPosted: Thu Jan 05, 2006 10:26 am    Post subject: Cisco ATA186 & DLink DI-624 Combo - One Way Choppy Audio Reply with quote Back to top

1. Location: Buda, TX (5min South of Austin)
2. Road Runner (via Time Warner), Type: Cable
3. See testyourvoip.com results in a reply below
4. Cable Modem: Toshiba Model: 60194E-A02
5. Type of Vonage adapter used: Cisco ATA186
6. Setup of Network: Modem---->DLink DI-624--->Cisco ATA186
7. Issue you are experiencing: one way choppy audio on receiver's end (non-Vonage end), happens with multiple receivers whether they have a land line or cell phone.
8. Router Make and Model: DLink DI-624 Rev C (Firmware 2.70 (latest))

9. Ports that are open on DLink DI-624 for the static IP that the Vonage (Cisco ATA186) ATA has:

5060 to 5063 -UDP
123 to 123 -UDP
69 to 69 -UDP
53 to 53 -UDP
10000 to 20000 -UDP

More Info:
Gaming Mode on the DLink is disabled.
The port in which the ATA is plugged into is NOT set to DMZ.

I currently have Vonage's Bandwidth Saver set to Higher (50 Kbps) down from Highest, thinking that might help ... it doesn't.

Do you think if Vonage sent me a replacement ATA (one of the Linksys models) that would solve my problems. Don't want to do that, so any other idea's???

BTW- I used to have a Linksys BEFSX41 in place of the DLink and it worked great ... No problems. Wasn't until I introduced the DLink that I started having some problems.

Thank you,
Stephen

Try enabling gaming mode on the DI-624. Also, 2.70 isn't actually the latest firmware:

ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/di624_revC/Firmware/di624_firmware_271beta.zip

(Well, there are non-official ways of getting a newer firmware than that, but that's a topic for another forum)

It looks like the only things that the 2.71 beta image fixes is:

Firmware: 2.71b10
Hardware: C3
Date: Sep 29, 2005

Problems Resolved:
1. Added support for Wake on LAN
2. Fix Centrino Issue
3. Update Help Section
4. Add WMM
5. Fix JumpStart Issue

It doesn't look like any of those issues would directly affect Vonage. Granted I'm not sure what WMM is, but I've got it disabled under the current production 2.70 firmware release...

I'll try enabling gaming mode first. If that doesn't work I'll try the upgrade to beta firmware. Do most people run Vonage on a DMZ port or the way I am currently doing it.

Thanks,
Steve

Here are a few more of my DLink DI-624 router settings:

Discard PING from WAN side: Enabled
UPNP Settings: Disabled
Gaming Mode: Disabled (will enable & retry)
Multicast Streams: Enabled
MTU: 1500
DNS Relay: On
Dynamic IP, Hostname (optional): <left it blank>

That's it for now...

If 2.71 doesn't help, and you're in a hackish mood, then you might want to check out the "generic" firmware I posted here on dslreports:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15034139~start=80

That's what I'm running here, but it's just acting as an access point behind an RT31P2, so it might or might not fix your problem.
