Since getting Vonage, i've had an increasingly more common experience that I keep losing my internet connection while playing Halo2 on Xbox Live.
It seems that I am able to play about an hour and then I get repeated problems where my whole network goes down.
Motorola SB4200 --> RTP300 router -->(phone, 2 PCs, xbox)
After the first disconnect last nite, I disconnected both PCs, so only the phone and xbox was connected to the router. Then within 15 minutes, I got dropped again. My router loses connectivity and cannot renew the IP from Comcast after releasing it. That's a strange thing also ... the Linksys RTP300 still thinks its connected when its not and all 4 lights are still lit up on the cable modem. The only fix to this is cycling the modem and router ... which is a pain since I play xbox in my basement and my networking stuff is in my upstairs office.
I was previously using a USR 8054 wireless router and never had this happen to me while playing xbox live. Is anyone else experiencing this? i've got to pinpoint the problem. I just got an xbox360 and it happens on both the xbox and the 360, so i don't think the issue is with the game console. I'm thinking it's either something Vonage related, comcast related or cable modem related. Any votes for the cable modem? I've had it 2 years or so and it runs 24/7 365.
Any ideas?
thanks in advance, Nate |

I used to have a similar problem. For me it seemed whenever there was a lot of traffic going over the Linksys router an Linksys cable modem, it would "lockup" and i had to power cycle the modem and router. What I ended up doing was calling up Linksys and then sent me a different modem via rma. I also recieved a dlink router from work for VPN capability. That seemed to fix the problem. It may be a problem with your modem, since Xbox live uses quite a bit of bandwidth.
