I have been very confused on whether or not I can or cannot use the vonage device in Honduras. Is is illegal? I talked to a representative at vonage customer service and asked if I could use the device in Honduras...His words were "It should not be a problem".
Then I noticed that vonage could possibly disconnect my service.
Does anyone know of any laws in Honduras regaurding the use of Vonage in Honduras? |

I am no expert on international law but what little I know there is one factor that is critical to VoIP's success in a specific country.
Is there a monopoly on telecommuncations in that country?
According to the following report, there is a monopoly in Honduras.
http://www.itu.int/osg/spu/tnt/Documents/WirelessVoIP_5Oct2005_ITU.pdf
If this is the case, then I am about 99.99% sure that it is illegal since it would directly compete against their monopoly. This is what is going on in Mexico right now. This article talks about how much more expensive it is to us SkypeOut there which means that the monopoly will want to also cut out its competition such as VoIP.
I would venture to extrapolate that VoIP is illegal in Honduras but please do not take my word for it. |

it probably depends on which junta is in charge at the moment there...If they aren't blocking the ports it should work if you get a high enough speed connection. Failing that, there are threads of people using the service in places like china, by using proxy services and such.
of course, when you take a vonage device overseas, all bets are off - |

Fortunately I know already that there is no adapter needed. I have a fiance overseas and have been there many times... My main concern is whether it would be legal.
But thanks for the thought |
