Based on the reviews on this forum, I purchased a PAP2 adapter for my personal phone needs. I registered with Vonage and connected the hardware but I cannot get a dial tone or the 3rd LED light on the adapter for the telephone for turn on (the power and ethernet LEDs are both lit).

My adapter is a PAP2
My router is a Linksys BEFW11S4
ISP - Megacable Cable modem (I live in Mexico)
Download Speed ~700
Upload Speed - ? I haven't found a web site that doesn't block me that will provide upload speed.
Setup - Cable modem -> Wireless Router -> Phone Adapter -> Phone

I have gone through the trouble shooting process in the manual from Linksys several times but it has not worked (un plug everything, dial 80#, manually set IP address). Does anyone have any suggestions? I did a site search and could not find this problem with my adapter and router listed.

Try temporarily disconnecting your router from the cable modem. Plug the PAP2 directly into the modem and re-boot modem, then PAP2. Do you get a phone connection now? (If your ISP uses static IP, you'll need to set the PAP2 up for that to run this test.)

the fact that you are trying to do this in Mexico is the problem. There have been innumerable posts here with Mexico's Telmex blocking all Voip traffic.

I will try plugging the PAP2 directly into the modem tonight when I get home from work. Thank you for the idea.

I use Megacable for my internet service. Megacable is the local cable company. Telmex is the phone company. I have a friend using Vonage here with his Telmex DSL service (he's who talked me into getting Voip) but I don't know anyone doing it with Megacable.

I have tried the speed test link test provided. It works on my work computer but not on my home computer. I can load the web site but in the box where the test runs I just get an X in the top left corner. Don't know if the problem is with the site, ISP, or my software. As an interesting side note, these forums block me when I am at home, I can only use them from work.

I hope that plugging the PAP2 directly into the modem works, but I don't have much hope. If you can't run testyourvoip from home, it suggests that the cable company is blocking some needed ports.
