Hello again
My current ISP is verizon, Verizon is also my phone company, when i first signed up for DSL i was told that i could get "Naked" DSL, BUT when i called to cancel my landline yesterday i was told a different story.
so im now looking for another ISP and since im VERY new to the world of high speed, i wouldent exactly know what to look for, and since im on a fixed budget at the moment i dont want to get screwed.
Thanks Very Much

What city are you located in an maybe we can tell you your options. I would always say to get FiOS (Fiber To The Home) internet if available as a first choice. Second choice would be cable because its is a ton faster then most DSL.
If you let us know the city we can let you know your options. |

Yes it is. You just have to pay for it via credit card each month and its 5 dollars more. Currently here in Tampa, FL you can get 5mb/s down and 2mb/s up for 39.95 a month without a phone line. No tax on it. So they will bill your CC 39.95 a month. There is free installation at this time as well as first month free. Takes about a month or so for them to come over and install it though. Also you can get 15/2 for 44.95 or 30/5 for a little more then that...dont know the price.
You can call 1-888-438-3467 to get info.
If you go to the fios site and dont have a telephone with them and enter your address it will say its not available even though it is. |

FIOS is available from Verizion without phone service... unlike DSL is is not carried over your normal phone lines. They bring a seperate fiber line to your house.
One thing to watch out for is a termination fee from Verizon. If you have had DSL less than a year they may charge you a termination fee to cancel DSL (which they are making you do to disconnect your land line). If you are in this situation then FIOS may be your answer. I believe they will let you "upgrade" from DSL to FIOS and then you can disconnect your land line without the DSL termination fee. |

It may be different in your area, but I just checked the Verizon FiOS web site and the free installation was only available if you signed up for a year contract. Otherwise it's $69.95 installation. |

You are correct. I forgot about the one year contract. I sorta see the one year contract as a way to at least have the price locked in for a year without increase. |

Yeah, the 1 year contract isn't that bad when you look at the savings ($129.99 for the year) and the fact that you can cancel in 30 days without the cancellation fee. I'd give it a shot if only it was offered in my area. I don't even live out in the sticks or anything... |
