I have a condo where I am installing Vonage. In the utility room is a small white panel about the size of a jack, that has a short section of phone cable with a single jack plugged in the bottom. When I unplug this jack the phones in the place go dead so clearly this is where the line comes in. Question is...is the short bit of cable and plug on my side or the bell canada side? Meaning, can I plug that cable into the adapter and call it a day? or, do I need to use my own pigtail and attache to the screw terminals under the cover to stay on my side? |

I am guessing that the jack is the Bell side. Plug a phone into it and see. |

ok, by jack do you mean the female side or the male side ? if the female is the bell side, I should be able to use a simple coupler to go from the cable from my adapter, to the home wiring short male lead? |

The jack is the female part and the plug is the male part. Take an ordinary phone patch cord (plugs on both ends). Plug one end into a phone and the other into the jack. If the phone comes to life, the jack is the phone company side, in which case you _don't_ want to plug your Vonage adapter in there.
Verify by setting the patch cord aside (remove it from your phone). Insert that plug that you unplugged into your phone. If the phone comes to life now, then the plug is the phone company side.
You can't be too careful about this. Home wiring is fairly easy, but if you make a mistake you can ruin your Vonage adapter. |

so I am on the right track. I know when I pull out the plug, the phones go dead...so this is where the line comes in. I just need to put the adapter on the right side of the equation and I should be good to go! |

Correct- just be sure you get the right side! |
