yeah a bad phone port is a long shot but still a definite possibility, some people are reporting static, or static on inbound calls only with 58 firmware, we can also try rolling you back to 55 and back forward again and see if that helps, if you want to try that PM me and we can get started on that, some people have reported success with that. If this problem only started to surface on the 58 firmware it might be worth a shot.

Sorry, but I can't help it. After reading the dozens (hundreds?) of posts here over the last year about that nasty, full-of-white-noise RT31P2 and its cousins, and how those new shiny RTP300's were SO much better and it was worth putting up with buggy firmware that messed up CID, voicemail, etc etc just to not have that nasty white noise of the RT31P2's..... I have to chuckle. I'm sure enjoying my mature, solid, stable RT31P2 these days. Very Happy

I had this problem with both a Motorola VT1005 and the RTP300.
Rolling back the firmware to .55 helped a great deal, but it still happens on my line on occasion.

For those experiencing the white noise issue -- answer the phone after the second ring and it won't appear. It's DEFINITELY a firmware issue, as it doesn't happen with 1.00.55.

DallasFlier: It's a great box, just need to keep the Vonage folks from sending out firmware "upgrades" that screw it over. Still dead-silent, which is essential for me, as I sometimes use it for interconnecting to remote systems (other PBXs, intercom systems, ClearCom, RTS, etc). It still sends & receives faxes without a problem (even has its own built-in fax-modem and converts the data from analog to digital, then sends the data down the line rather than trying to convert it to voice packets), and it doesn't seem to care if it gets royally abused, such as hooking the phone port up to 1000' of phone wire or keeping it in a 100F utility closet. The Texas Instruments hardware is superior, Vonage monkeying around with it is the problem.

I picked up a PAP2-NA to use with my Asterisk PBX (also used it with a Cisco) and it indeed has the same noise issues that I had with the RT31P2, bad hardware design overall. The size of the PAP2 is cute, and I would like to see a router version of it, even if 1 port, so I can use it at a hotel which requires authentication. Even so, the noise & limited frequency response remain with the PAP2. At least the -NA version doesn't have Vonage sending firmware updates to it.

I also get the static a lot when calling into a Verizon (ex-GTE) exchange. Also, the 1/2 second delay for the calling party to hear me on incoming calls (from the same ex-GTE exchange) happens as well with my RTP.

Calls to/from other exchanges don't have this problem.

I thought this thing was supposed to be clear.

White noise with some phone devices is a "feature" of 1.58 as reported on December 14th here.

I only have the white noise issue if I answer on the first ring. If I wait long enough for the CallerID info to show, no noise problems. Another feature that was added in .58 but not mentioned anywhere is the addition of loop voltage drop upon remote disconnect. Probably doesn't mean a hill of beans to most folks, but those of us with higher-end equipment (and/or PBXs) can now set our equipment to terminate the call upon loop-drop rather than waiting for a reorder tone. Very Happy Actually, the reorder tone didn't exist up until .58 unless you persuaded tech support to hack your device to provide one. They were usually reluctant to do it, but it's always worked fine once I got them to put it in.

I'm familiar with your problem you speak of regarding picking up after the first ring, however, I'm referring to making calls (outbound calls) on the RTP300.

I've got the white noise thing from time to time after the .58 upgrade. I have to pick up and hang up a couple of times to get a good connection. It is random and annoying. Also, I don't always get a dial tone either. Odd thing is I have to power cycle the phone base on the Uniden Tru 8865-2 to correct the problem though. This happens about twice, or so, per week.

I have to say. Sometimes I feel like it would be easier to pay more and get less just for the piece of mind. I've never spent so much time screwing with anyone thing I've had like this phone service. On one had your told it's not Vonage and then on the other they admit it's there problem.
