My condo has the intercom wired through my telephone so that when someone buzzes me, my phone rings to let them in. How will Vonage work with this system? Is it possible?
Also, are cordless phone compatible?

First off, vonage can definatly be used with cordless phones. If you decide to get the TA that includes WLAN, I would avoid using 2.4GHz Phones, as they may interfere with your wireless frequency set. I would suggest using 5.8GHz sets
In regards to the intercom, the simple answer is yes. It depends on how it is configured, but it can be done in all cases, some just require more work... |

For your building's intercom system, find out if the system to connected to an outside line. That is to say "Does the system use an outside line to connect..." If it does, then you only need to supply your Vonage phone number to the landlord and they will program into their system. Systems like this are common and basically functions a "speed dial" with all the tenant's phone numbers programmed into it that are accessed by selecting the tenant entry code or suite number. I don't know how it would work if it is connected through internal wiring but one solution would be to keep an old phone connected to the wall jack so that it will ring when someone calls from the phone door, I don't think that you need wireline phone service to make this work as this type of system doesn't use an outside line. I'm sure that someone else in the forum has a craftier way to make the internally wired intercom systems work with Vonage. |
