Post subject: Linksys PAP2 MAC Addresses not registering in Canada...
Well, I thought I was going to have a pleasant evening trying to get my service hooked up tonight, but I am guess I no better off then sticking with Telus right about now.
Here is the current situation: Earlier on today, I bought a PAP2 from The Source for $86. Tried to register the MAC address over 7 hours ago and it would not register. I tried again 7 hours later and it still won't register. I keep getting this lovely error message:
"We are sorry for the inconvenience. This device has not been configured correctly for activation with
Vonage
CA. Please call our Customer Care department at 877-272-0528 for immediate assistance. Please advise our Customer Care team that your device is not configured for service in Canada and we will enable your device for activation."
Well lets see, five phone calls, two transfers, and three disconnects later in the course of speaking with U.S. and "oh god" India support, this has not been resolved. I am very very close to returning this thing and signing up with Primus TalkBroadband.
I'd like to know how many others are having this problem. It appears somewhere along the line that either LinkSys or
Vonage
messed up and sent a bunch of U.S.
Voip
TAM's to Canada.
Update: After talking with
Vonage
again, it appears that they are unwilling to support the TAM's bought from retailers. Well, thank you
Vonage
, you just lost a customer and probably a lot more too. Good riddance.

Post subject: WRT54GP2 from London Drugs also can't be activated in Canada
I bought the WRT54GP2 from London Drugs and also couldn't activate it because "This device has not been configured correctly for activation with
Vonage
CA. blah, blah, blah" After 4 tries with Tech Support (including a 2 hour odyssey when I got transferred at least 8 times, including some almost unintelligible conversations with tons of static and many long waits on hold), 2 verbal assurances and 1 email that my MAC address would be registered, I got zilch, nada, nothing. After 20 days of trying to get
Vonage
I gave up.
I also took the WRT54GP2 back to London Drugs and had a sales guy try registering several others off the shelf; all of those MAC numbers were also unable to be registered in Canada.
That is one big batch of bad routers
The level of confusion/disorganization is kind of stunning for a company trying to _gain_ customers

I did too - and returned the router to LD. We checked all the routers they had, and all were coming up with the same error.
I purchased from Best Buy, and asked to test the MAC address before I purchased. Once I could confirm that it worked, I purchased it and brought home. Set up in like 3 mins...
Return it to your point of purchase, and let them deal with the
Vonage
rep.

Post subject: Tried again and so far, no success
Well, I decided to try another PAP from Futureshop and sure enough, they are having the same problems. I asked the store rep if the MAC address could be checked and he said that the store was not responsible for MAC address problems (go figure). After 10+ calls, I was finally able to get a rep to send the MAC address to their engineers and was told that it would be activated in 24-48 hours. Well, 24 hours has gone by and notta, ziltch. At least I have a reference # with those guys, and I am going to make them log more calls that I make everytime I ask for an update to the situation.
So far I have signed up with Comwave, too bad it's a PC Software based service.

I can't stress it enough - if you want to have it 'resolved' you need to test the MAC before you purchase and return your original one. They'll take it back.
I had
Vonage
email me 15 days after I originally asked them to register my MAC for Cdn useage - by then I was already 100 mins into my new contract.

Well luckily, your store was forgiving in that regard. The Source was out of adapters and Futureshop is hessitant to do that sort of thing.

Post subject: Advice worked.
I'd like to thank for the advice that you gave. Futureshop allowed me to call
Vonage
and check the status of two MAC addresses for two devices that they had, a PAP2 and a WRT54G. Luckily, the PAP2 worked, but the WRT54G did not.
I am up and running with
Vonage
now and did a test call with my mother in B.C. She did say that she had some light feedback on the phone, but I adjusted that with the bandwidth saver. I always also able to get Telus the "bird" and had the line disconnected in 15 minutes.
