A couple more questions:
1) Is it possible to transfer my home phone to be a "Virtual Number"?
2) Is it possible to switch a "Virtual Number" to be the primary number?
Here's the situation:
I would like to try Vonage out. If I like it, I would want to transfer my home number to it.
Thanks |

I know this is a reply to an older post.. but here's my situation, that Vonage seems unwilling to help with.
1) I ordered Vonage - just to try it out, and decided to keep it. I have a primary number from Vonage that I've been using.. a bunch of people know it and I'd like to keep it..
2) I still have my Verizon land line, which I want to cancel.. I was hoping that Vonage would let me port the number to a virtual number, as apparently was described as possible in this forum earlier.. But after speaking to two reps, I was told in no uncertain terms that NO, you CANNOT port a number to a virtual number... I'd have to sign up for a second full line / account.. Not worth it to me to keep the number...
Is there any other alternative here? Has anyone ever had luck porting a number to a virtual number, or even a fax line? (Also, can you use the fax line for voice at all?)
Thanks.. |

You could always cancel the landline and specify a forwarding number to be played in the cancellation message for people that call the old number. |

Won't they let you port the Verizon number, and when the LNP occurs, convert your existing Vonage number to a virtual number?

I think this is possible, but I don't think the rep understood this process. What I did was select "change phone number", and chose to leave my current number as a Virtual number at 4.99/mo.. This means the main number is getting ported to the Verizon number -- which is more or less what I wanted..
I do wish the reps would understand their business a bit more, though. The first one I talked to barely understood the concept of a virtual number!
Now something strange is happening on the website, however... My old virtual number (I had one before this) is no longer showing up under "manage your virtual numbers".. It was having this problem before I initiated the number porting order, so it's un-related.. Anyone else had this problem? The number still works and shows up on my bill (and I'm paying for it), but I can't manage it. Strange. |
