My dad and I are new customers. Aside from a less-than-desirable experience with technical support, the lack of outbound caller ID names is what we noticed first.
Here's another vote - two actually - for improved outbound caller ID. Do any other providers offer outbound caller ID with a name? Also I noticed there are several forum threads with the same basic topic - maybe a mod could sticky this

Vonage Softfone can be tweaked easily to display caller name with outgoing calls, and it is hard to understand why it is such a big technical problem for vonage to to implement this feature. I have been waiting for this feature for last one and a half year and hope they will add this soon. I am going to send request to Vonage through the online acocunt and I encourage everyone who would like to have this feature to contact Vonage to give an extra push. |

Just found this thread... see my duplicate nearby. I also add my vote for this. We ported my wife's office number to V and wouldn't have done so if we'd known 'CLID' meant inbound only.
As I said elsewhere, this isn't even a V owned number, but ours, so there's even less rationale for "can't do it". |

So if vonage does not own any phone lines does that mean we will never get caller ID ?
I wish they would give a timeline or at least give us updates on the progress.
this needs to work and I think alot of people when they sign up for vonage think that this feature does work since they claim they support caller ID ... |

I don't know what owning phone lines has to do with it. They claim that if I call 911 that they will see my name address and my hat size.
It's like ACR. Seems like it would be easy, other VOIP's provide it but nothing new has been delivered by Vonage in the 14 months I have used them! (unless you want to count a couple of taxes for the 911 thing that still doesn't work). I love the price though and the toll-free number! I'm sticking around. |

Add me to the list of those who want caller ID with name on outbound calls. Smaller VOIP providers already are offering this, Vonage should step up to the plate and add it. |

The name option in Softphone only works for in-network calls. CallerID out of network is resolved by the termination point - not passed with the call itself.
The reason that Vonage numbers don't show CallerID name on outbound calls is because Vonage doesn't/won't/can't update the CNAM/LIDB databases to reflect the owner of the individual numbers. When you make a call, the receiver's switch pings the LIDB and looks up the number, and there's no entry there. I don't know why they don't do this - I don't know if they are just cheap or if they have contracts in place with the CLECs the prevent them from doing this or what.
As Actor90 said, there are lots of other VoIP providers who do offer this feature. It is not a technical limitation at all. |

I can't believe Vonage still does not have outbound caller id. EVERYONE and I literally mean EVERYONE I know has caller id and will NOT answer the phone if they do not see a name. |

I agree with everyone in this forum that name should appear on outbound caller ID. I was surfing the net looking for alternatives to Vonage, and found that viatalk, a small VoIP company, even offers name on outbound caller ID. So why can't a big company like Vonage have already done this years ago? It just doesn't make sense. My wife and I are seriously considering dropping Vonage over this single issue. |

I know many people that were interested in Vonage service but declined signup over no name caller id! Many smaller voip companies provide this service and to think the largest one doesn't offer it is mind boggling. |
