I am experiencing problems with my ATT 5.8 GHz coreless expandable phone. It turns out that it is 5.8 in one direction and 2.4 in the other, despite being advertised as a 5.8 GHz phone. Does anyone have a 5.8 GHz BIDIRECTIONAL expandable set that they use with Vonage? I don't need an answering machine but I do like speakerphone, and I only need a single line, but none of these are not deal-breakers! Any suggestions welcome, and thanks in advance. |

I have a Uniden TRU8885 5.8 GHz phone system that I really like. I mainly got it because our old 2.4 GHz phone was interfering with my wireless network and picking up calls from the neighbor's phone.
My single biggest gripe about it is in the way it handles Caller ID. Even if you have a number stored in the phone itself, it will display whatever name is associated with the external Caller ID. Usually this isn't a problem. However, in the case of cell phones it displays "WIRELESS CALLER" and the phone number. Even if I put all the wireless numbers of friends and family that might be calling me into the phone's memory, when someone calls on their cell phone it will still only show "WIRELESS CALLER" and the phone number. I'm left memorizing at least parts of cell phone numbers if I want to know who's calling before I pick up. Other than that, I really like it.
Some people have complained about range on Uniden phones, but so far it's been excellent for me. The base unit is downstairs and I have extension units in back bedrooms on both ends of the house. I have never had a problem with range on them. I've walked outside with the phone, but I haven't seen how far down the street I can go. |

I use the Uniden CLX 485. I haven't had any problems with range or sound quality. Only problem I have had is with certain callers Caller ID displaying the CID that Vonage pass to your device ( even though you have it stored in your phonebook). Here's the link to the phones: http://www.uniden.com/products/productdetail.cfm?product=CLX485
I've had a few customers talk about the Panasonic KX-TG5439S. From what they say excellent telephone, excellent range and overall no problems. |

Thanks Xzibit1326 for your suggestion. I saw the CLX485 with 3 handsets for about $150 at Sam's Club today and it looked like the most likely one to get. I can live with the CID issue, as long as I can disable the answering machine function so it doesn't interfere with Vonage features which I prefer. |

I am rough on phones at work, and have a hard time finding phones that I like. I am sold on the Uniden 5.8Ghz models. There are a number of configurations, call quality is good, they are durable, and the batteries last much longer than the panasonics. I have owned at least half a dozen cordless phones in the last 18 months, and the Uniden is the first keeper of the bunch. |
