ok i've been playing with this thing and combing websites for 4 damn hours. I was like Very Happy then i was Sad now im just Evil or Very Mad

my setup: Apartment with free high speed. Just plug ethernet into the wall and go. RTP300 with firmware .58 A good amount of computer knowledge and know how. Ethernet to rtp > RTP ethernet to PC > phone attached..... phone nor network works.

Ok i actually started off with the cd that came in box. I got to step 10 and it said "cant find internet connection." The power light and internet connectivity were blinking on the rtp. By going into network connection I see that I am sending and recieving packets but i cant go to any webpages. Using repair doesnt even work. Only way to get my phone to work is to plug in my wireless D-Link router to wall and then attach RTP to it. Needless to say... i have wires EVERYWHERE with this set up.

1) Do i NEED a modem for RTP to work?
2) Cant i just use the modem as a stand alone item... just plug into ethernet and attach phone?
3) Should i just end my service now!?! I really should of read this forum before buying but my tracfone was low on minutes :'(

Ty for any help.

First please take a deep breath and get calm. We'll try to help.

You shouldn't need access to the modem to get the RTP300 to work. Since your wireless router works when plugged into the apartment service, the RTP300 should also. I'd recommend checking out the setup of that router and seeing if you can duplicate it with the RTP. For example, is PPPoE enabled with an identifier and password?

You did say that you get phone service when the RTP is plugged into the D-link? Was everything good when you do that- internet service, good speed, clear phone service?

Without the D-link, the basic connection, as I'm sure you know, should be RTP WAN port to the internet service, RTP LAN port to your computer. You _must_ set up the RTP to be compatible with the service- PPPoE if needed, static IP or DHCP as needed, and so on. You probably then want to set up DHCP for the computer with the RTP set up as the server.

I use DHCP. I plugged in my other router and went to it's setup. That one used auto IP obtain. Here are, what i think are, some big differences......

When my D link router is connected ot my cpu I get an "Internet Gateway" connection in my Network Settings folder. When I connect just my cpu and rtp, nothing pops up.

D Link : starting IP address = 192.168.0."100"
ending IP address = 192.168.0."199"
Lease time = 1 week

RTP300: starting is 192.168.15."2" not 1 but 2 because of some "lan ipaddr" error
ending = 192.168.15."6"

I think the problem has to do with the "lan ipaddr," im currently searching online to see what in the world lan ipaddr is but half the sites ive found make no sense to me.

Also, when i plug my RTP directly into the highspeed, the "internet" light on the router just blinks constantly. If I plug the RTP's WAN into my other router I get an instant solid blue light.... even when wireless router isnt connected to the internet i get a solid blue light on the RTP.

Ill edit this as i try new things. Guess ill call Vonage too but i wont be able to trouble shoot since Vonage is my only phone.

ok so i did the 2 router setup where the phone works. On the RTP the power, phone and interent light were solid blue. I unplugged the RTP from the other router and put it directly into the wall(ethernet) now when i pick up the phone i can hear a dial tone. The power and phone light are solid blue, the internet is blinking blue. But as soon as i make a call it goes quiet. After about 5 minutes or more, the phone light turns off and i cnat hear a dial tone anymore.

BTW the "step 10" that I wrote about in my previous post is the step to change the password on the router so that i can use the "web-based Utility of the router."

You had the phone working when you plugged the RTP into the D-link, correct? Were you able to make good phone calls in that configuration?

Please go to www.testyourvoip.com and make a test call. Give us the detailed results. Please do this with the RTP out of the circuit and also with it plugged into the wall and your computer plugged into it.

yes my calls sound just fine when my RTP is plugged into my D link.
while it's like that, that site says i score a little over 4.

Well i just got off the phone with some indian chic from Vonage. She told me to match up my IP address in "ipconfig" and to do a hard reset (hold that reset button for 90 secs) then unplug for a minute. Im going to do some more steps and hope it works. Im kinda fed up since it wont set up how i want.

ok well its working now and i feel like Confused now. After the HARD RESET, if it was really any harder than the 7sec reset, all i did was do the mac clone. After those 2 lil miniscule things were done, it started working without the need of my other router.

4 minute install my ass. Thank you for your help Steve48. I just hope no one ever has to go through this and if they do, hopefully they'll find this.

They baby the consumer too much these days. Simply putting that info into my welcome packet would of been nice. I dont need to know what a mac clone is in order to do it after properly hooking up my system.

TY again, im out!
