1. Your location- Ohio
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc)Wadsnet..Cable
3. Upload and download speeds- Not sure where I can find this as i have Windows Xp and still learning
4. Modem make and model-Motorola surfboard sb4100
5. Type of Vonage adapter used -RTP300
6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc- No connection. On time I was able to get internet connection thru the router, but no dial tone.
8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston. Will try in the morning
We have talked to Vonage several times, but my cell phone is low on minutes and they are not helping.
Used set up instructions B and have tried over and over for the last 2 weeks. We even tried the disc. The last time we talked with Vonage they supposedly did something on their end and now we cannot get into http://192.168.15.1/ at all. They also sent us a different router then what they originally was going to send.
We have talked to our internet company and they said it's all up to Vonage.
The one time we had it connected and could get internet the phone had DEad Air..no dial tone what so ever.
We were told to RESET it. Still did not work.
Also they were supposed to send a Motorola Reconditioned VT1005RB, but were out.
I hate to give up, so this is our last hope. I even emailed Linksys to see if they could help. No answer.
Thanks for any help and I will give you any more info asap. I work 3rd shift.
Thanks,
Shawn |

Well, first, count yourself lucky that you got an RTP300 instead of the VT1000. It's a better deal.
I'm not sure what setup B is, but the basic setup, assuming that your modem has ethernet output rather than USB, is to plug the RTP WAN port into the modem ethernet port, and your computer into any one of the 4 LAN ports on the RTP. If your modem has both ethernet and USB outputs, the USB output should _not_ be connected to anything. You should power up the system by first putting power on the modem. Wait one minute and then power up the RTP. Wait again and then power up the computer.
Now, do you have internet service on the computer? If so, you can get the upload and download speeds by going to the Vonage website. Click on "help" on the menu. The first FAQ question you'll see is "How do I check my upload speed?" or words to that effect. Click on that link and it will take you to a site where a test will be run on both your upload and download speeds. Clearly, if you get a phone light and your Vonage phone works, then your troubles are over- but please let us know. We like feedback.
If you don't have internet service when you've done what I indicated above, then remove the RTP and plug your computer directly into the modem. If you get internet service that way, run the speed test. Either way, get back to us and we'll go on from there. |

We are supposed to get the new unit today, so wish us luck. Maybe refurbished was not the correct term, that is what he said something like that |
