On December 14th I ordered Vonage and also requested that my current phone number be transferred from Qwest. I filled out the online LOA and the Dashboard shows the request for transfer was sent on 12/14. Today I received my first inbound call on Vonage. I figured it was because the caller had Vonage so I asked, but to my surprise they said they did not. So I tried calling my home number with my cell phone and it, too, rang through to Vonage. The strange thing is, I can still make outbound calls on my Qwest land line. Also, Qwest shows a status of the transfer to be completed with a due date of 12/29. I guess it's possible that things occurred sooner so that's good news, I'm just curious why the status on the Dashboard never updated. I'm definitely not complaining and I'm very happy that the transfer went through so quickly. |

A couple of things. I did the same thing from Qwest... - There may be some overlap days from the date of the port till the date that Qwest offically disconnects your line. You can still make calls, but anything made to you will ring on your Vonage line. - Do you have Qwest DSL? Because if you do you are likely to have that disconnected, as well, if you haven't made other arrangements. And do not be fooled by Qwest reps telling you it will automatically convert over to stand alone without any service interruption. -As for the numbers on the dashboard, click on the little pull down menu button next to the phone number. It should show your temp/virtual number and your ported number. It will only show the ported permanent number after the next billing cycle. |

Ah, the overlap thing makes sense. I'm just surprised (pleasantly) that the transfer occurred so quickly after reading some of the horror stories of people having to wait 2+ months for the number to port.
I don't have DSL so no issues with the transfer there. I'm glad that was something I didn't have to deal with. |

Besides majoy screw-ups related to my DSL with Qwest, my port of my Qwest POTS number to Vonage went flawlessly and happened within 8 business days. And yes, I was surprised as well...given what is often posted here. I suspect that the people who had/have issues with LNP are just more vocal than the success stories.
Now, if I could only get Qwest to stop sending me mail begging me to come back to them for phone service. |

Overlap days.....that might explain why my POTS phone no longer works and the line is dead but the Vonage phone does. The temp number still shows up on my dash-board but I guess it will go away soon. |

The temp number will show up until the current billing cycle has ended. |
