I just tried calling Voice Mail and heard nothing. Not even ringing.
I've contacted my ISP and they swear the ports are open. Is there anyway for me to check if they're being honest here? I don't completely trust them at their word.
How can I check to see if it is a NAT issue? I'm not beyond trying anything at this point.
Also, will any of these factors affect my Vonage irregularly? I was succesful temporarilly yesterday and it seems strange that any of these possibilities would block my connections randomly. |
My guess is that the ringback you are getting is also being generated by the ATA. The audio path is being cut through in both directions until the call is connected.
The only way to really determine what is happening at this point is to capture the packets coming in and out of your ATA.
I would call Vonage tech support. |

I went to www.testyourvoip.com and tried running a test to Boston. This is what it reported:
Test Failed Your computer couldn't call our location. Here are some possible causes to consider: If you have a Voip Service, your VoIP/Phone Adaptor may have reserved the standard SIP port and is filtering out our SIP packets. Consider temporarily removing the Adaptor from your configuration and re-running the test. Your Personal Firewall, if you are using Windows XP, may be filtering the SIP port used for communication. Either your home firewall or your broadband provider's firewall is blocking the SIP port used for communication. Please try again in a couple of minutes.
I did try back in a couple minutes, all without success. |

Did you try temporarily removing the adapter and re-running the test? |

Yes, I've tried running several power cycles and testing after each.
I've also tried sitting on the phone with Vonage tech-support and their best "guess" is that my ISP is blocking ports. They say they can't be certain but there isn't anyway to that they can test to see if the ports are open or not. Once again, my ISP swears they are not blocking any ports.
So, unless someone can come up with a way to test these, or another possible solution, this will be the end of my attempts and my goodbye to Vonage. |
