Hi,
Had the WRT54G before, and worked fine. Ran two wireless and one wired connection, and I could boot them (and get an IP accordingly) at any time in any sequence.
Signed up for Vonage, using the WRT54GP2 (thinking it would be the best swap). While everything works (Phone, Internet, etc) when I boot a computer, or restart from XP Hibernate, it takes minutes for it to actually connect.
I did not change any of the settings on the original router, and am wondering if there is a certain part of the router settings that would speed up the connection process. I don't think the router is faulty, just needs a tweak.
Any tips appreciated. |

What is QOS? I tried searching the manual, and no references were found. What does it stand for? |

Actually Hibernate is known to cause problems with connectivity on networks. I do not use it, same for Standby, due to that. I have had no problems with using the WRTP54G, and same for my sister using the WRT54G.
I would use just the WRTP54G, and if you can, just put the WRT54G away for backup. As for WiFi, I have had no problems being able to go to my backyard and connect, and this is coming from someone with Aluminum Siding. |

Just wondering if using a fixed ip address on your PC might help. |

Searched the forums for QOS and saw where to access it. I haven't done anything about it yet. I was able to determine that it's more when I connect the different computers in varying order, and they are hunting for their original IP that they had.
Tried specifying IPs, and was unable to connect at all. I would prefer this route, as the desktop runs various servers, and I would like to be able to ensure it's always on the same IP for port forwarding. |
