I was thinking about getting Vonage, but not sure if it will work in my condo. Every unit has high speed DSL internet (included in our condo fees), but can I set up the Vonage system from my unit or do I have to mess with the building's wiring (that could be a problem). I have no idea where the modem is in the building, but I do know that our internet is quite fast.
Will this work? What should I investigate? What else do I need to know before ordering Vonage?
Thanks for your help.

So if I understand correctly, you have a standard networking jack in your condo that is connected to the internet via the associations network (which talks to the internet via a DSL connection) and you currently have your computer plugged into that and configured for the internet? Any passwords or anything required to authenticate yourself on this network or is it automatic once you plug in?
If it's automatic, you shouldn't have any issues. You probably will want to do the speed test on Vonage forums (http://www.vonage-forum.com/voip-speed-test.html) and see if you have the speed for a good Voip connection. The Vonage adapter can be configured for a dynamic or static IP address, whichever is required by the condo's network. |

Yes, you are correct. Just a jack with no password necessary. All I have to do is plug it into my computer. The speed test was good (up to 5 simultaneous call) but the QOA was 52%. Will this work?
Is there anything else I need to know? I think I'm sold.
Thanks, Alek. |
