How about a section or list dedicated to people who have successfully done this, and are willing to help others out in their area for a fee, or beer or something....

I've read these forums on how to rig my wiring so I can continue to use ADT to no avail. Anyone in the Chicago area want to make a buck? I'd like to keep ADT since I have a 3 year sucker contract. Thanks

Simply exchange the tip and ring wires for the line and extension at the alarm box, and it should work.

The tip and ring wires were previously connected directly to the outside land line by the installer, so this had to be swapped to use internal tip and ring from any phone jack.

I did this with my ADT box, and it is working fine.

IL- I'm not sure I understand your terminology here. Tip and ring refer to the two wires within a single pair- such as the red wire (ring) and the green wire (tip) in the primary pair in most two line phone systems, or the blue (ring) blue/white (tip) pair in a cat 5 system. Exchanging tip and ring would reverse polarity in the system. Why do you want to do that?

If you are talking about the 2 lines that are going into the "ring" and "tip" labels on the bottom right side of the box, i gave this a try.
I switched them out....

Now, just from doing this - the Yellow ligt is still on the Trouble designation of the ADT alarm panel. Is it suppose to disappear when the thing is working again?

Do I need to do anything to the outside box?

The alarm panel has two 'Tip and Ring' connections, which allows the panel to be in front of your house phone jacks, thereby allowing the panel to disconnect all the phones to dial directly out on the 'Telco' Tip and Ring when an alarm signal needs to sent. If you switch the two Tip and Ring pairs from how they are connected at the alarm panel, you will prevent the panel from being able to sieze a line that is already in use. Better than doing this, is to simply connect your Vonage adapter to the main Tip and Ring pair in substitution for your previous Telco. The house jack Tip and Ring will then be provided Vonage dial tone just like plugging the adapter into a wall jack, but the alarm panel will be happy (no fault light) and will be able to sieze the line correctly. If you have structured wiring, this is very easy. If not, you may have to be more creative in getting your adapter set up to connect to the panel and your home network.
