Post subject: Voicemail stutter tone issues
I need to get this out because I need to Vent.
I have
Vonage
myself. I use it all the time and I love it to death.
Something stupid as a stutter tone should not effect the "this service stinks"
You will be paying over $80.00 a month for half the features that
Vonage
offers you from other land lines. The fact you can call in the US Puerto Rico or Canada for the same rate every month, no surprises, Anywhere, anytime for the same rate a month.
I don't care if stupid little issues arise like, stutter tone not going off or not turning off. Live with it. This issue has been going on for awhile and the engineers are working there tails off to get this resolved. Programming issues even little, can turn into major issues. We many other major issues having to deal with day by day, because of the third party carries that we have to deal with and cable companies who can't give there customers a decent connection.
You must realize have the people who cancel come back, because they don't feel like paying $120.00 a month for phone service because they have 3 kids who rack up the phone bill. $24.00 for intermittent problems is fine with me. I love it to death, and YES i do get some issues that people experience from time to time. But with this low rate, it's well worth it. Because overall I love the service and it works nearly perfect with me.
Rest assured EVERYONE that the stutter tone will be FIXED eventually.
Here is tech jargain on WHY it's not working correctly:
The system is not sending a BYE command to the router to tell it to shut the stutter tone off, the system is keeping it open. The programmers are trying to find why this is happening. It's a bug that is hiding. Then the exact opposite there is no INVITE command to tell the router to turn the sutter tone off.
Which will effect the indicator light on your phone, tape it with dark tape so you don't see it blink. Then just check your voicemail either A) Through your web account. or B) Through your voicemail notifications.
If you really going to cancel over something as dumb as a stutter tone, then I really don' tknow. The internet is not perfect, issues happen. Land lines work well becaues all it is is a WIRE that's it was SWITCHES that just route calls. The internet is a WHOLE different ball game. You know how many lines of code it takes just to make ONE connection, or even recognize voice. It's a miracle that even
VOIP
took off, I have seen what it's like on the inside it's the grave.
Bare with it it will be fixed.
$24.00 a month I will take my stutter tone not working.

Read your post while reading through forums trying to find more trouble shooting tips on dropped calls. No luck on my side yet.
People should stop and think about how far technology has advanced lol we could be using empty tin cans n cord..
Wishing Good Luck to the technician

Guess I'll put my 2 cents in ... I'm annoyed by the tone issue because it makes all my phones blink that there is voicemail. At night time I put the one phone in my night stand so it doesn't drive us crazy.
That being said I'm OK with the "little" problems. The issue I have is the "dashboard" not being updated saying there is an VM issue (or something).
Next, the fact that I either get dropped or it takes 20+ minutes to get through to customer service isn't good. I could totally cut out the issue if there was an announcement on the dashboard.
Overall I'm happy with
Vonage
because of the price. My wife on the other hand would say no (but she doesn't pay the bill
)
Just my opinion and observation.
Thanks & Merry Christmas.

Why not leave the phone out? The red blinking light in the room will give you the feel of staying in a seedy motel. Might spice up the sex life.

Think you missed the point
But either way the "blue" blinking light is nullified.

Holy Stutter Tone Batman!
If that's a problem for you there is a simple solution... Just turn
off
voicemail. End of problem. Those folks will call you back later if it was important... Just like they used to do in the 50's! Can't live without voicemail? I can't believe it, but Hiaco out to the store and buy a cheapo answering machine.

I have to say I agree - I used to pay in taxes and fees with verizon just about what my total bill is with
Vonage
. I can't be bothered with even thinking about my stutter tone. If a blinking light or stutter tone makes you that hysterical, seek therapy and re-examine your priroties. instead of spending an hour on the phone to Wonage Deck Nickel Shopport only to hear it's a known issue and we can't really do anything about it, maybe go spend some time with your family, polish the rims on your car, watch A Christmas Story, or like Kevin suggested, take the wife to a seedy motel and spice things up. (Why does he always talk about crackhouses and seedy motels)
Granted, it's supposed to work, and it WILL be fixed, but the hapless agent you whine about a stupid blinking light to has no way to fix it or know when it will fixed.

Hmm. good point. I have two cordless phones on my
Vonage
line, BOTH with answering machines. Neither of them useful since
Vonage
Voicemail came into my life. I'll make someone a really good deal for the older Uniden unit if you want. Nice cordless phone, AND an answering machine. Works great with
Vonage
(*) - guaranteed.
My AT&T speakerphone/cordless has a digital answering system with three, count them three, mailboxes. The answering machine portion has never even been powered up.
Of course, I could care less about stutter tone for three reasons:
1. No VMWI indicator on any of my telephony equipment, much less one in my BEDROOM (I mean, honestly, do I need to know in my bedroom that I have voice mail?). Any blinking lights in the bedroom need black electrician's tape permanently installed, unless you like the color or your significant other finds it arousing ("hey, baby, how about a Blue Light Special?")
Tell your wife that VMWI stands for "
Vonage
Make Whoopie Indicator". It's an FCC law. You don't want to break the law, do you?
2. I have a life. Not much of one, mind you, and it's a pretty pathetic one, but enough of one that I don't freak out about voice mail.
3. Very little voice mail. I answer the phone, usually, and not many people call me, since I don't have to pay to call them. See #2 about "pathetic life".
4. Dummy... I said THREE reasons. Why are you reading something under a #4 entry in a list that CLEARLY specified THREE reasons?
(*) Note: "Works great with
Vonage
" is not a guarantee. It may say guarantee, but that's not what it means. It means that it works great for me, and I guarantee that if you don't like it you can send it back (no refunds) and it'll continue to work great for me. Voice mail function not guaranteed, as it's never been used. This message brought to you by a wholly-unowned nonsubsidiary of the
Vonage
Telephone Company, and is covered under their usual truth in advertising disclaimers. Or not. Depends on what we feel like saying that day.

I had a stutter dial tone for the past few days on a line that doesn't have, and never has had, voice mail.
Turning voice mail on and off via the dashboard made no difference.
Rebooting the router made no difference.
It went away with time.
