hello

I signed up for this service about two years ago, and used the motorola equipment until january of 2005. in january I ordered a second line and receive the linksys RT31P2.

Yesterday I connected the linksys RT31P2 to my cable modem router. I can connect to the router admin with my browser. All the settings appear to be correct, and the unit appears to be online. However, the phone status reports "cannot connect to the login server" right after the phone number assigned by Vonage.

It is clearly connected to the Internet, because the firmware date is September 2005. Yesterday is the first time the device was unboxed and hooked up to the internet. So I doubt it received a firmware update from Sept 2005 back in January. Just guessing.

Anyhow, I have not received any reply from Vonage tech support.

The device is connected to a WRT54G that is connected to a Comcast Cable line. Maybe i should flip it around and put the WRT54G behind the RT31P2???

I appreciate your suggestions and comments.

I certainly would do that if I were having issues. If that does not correct your problem im sure someone has that same sorta config and can help. It is always best to put the CABLEMODEM > ROUTER/ATA's > OTHER ROUTER > COMPUTERS/OTHER it seems.

ok, that did the trick.

I guess you are correct, it works (better:-) with the RT31P2 hooked up to the cable modem directly.

I put the WRT54G behind the RT31P2. I set the RT31P2 to use DHCP for the Comcast network, and 172.27.1.1 on the LAN. then I set the WRT54G to 172.27.1.15 on the wan and 192.168.1.1 on the LAN side.

It is worrysome that they don't offer any user configuration / admin on the phone side on the RT31P2 and there aren't any troubleshooting tools (ping, traceroute, etc). It just says contact tech support. I contacted tech support yesterday and have not yet received a reply.

oh well, guess it is working now Wink

Now i am receiving a 500 error from the Vonage login page. I get to the home page through port 80 just fine, it is when i try to login (over https / port 443) that I receive an error.

Using Internet Explorer directly over the comcast line I get the default IE "cannot find server or dns error". Using Firefox that is tunneling through ssh through a proxy in San Antonio I receive the Vonnage error page "Sorry, a system error has occurred. Please try again later.".

Using Lynx from a server in Massachusetts it reports the http status code 500. with the same error message - So I am thinking this isn't my setup here. Smile

Anyone else have trouble with the Vonage site? Maybe they are having a temporary issue, which is fine, but I just flipped around my network here and maybe that is the reason for the trouble Wink just doesn't look like it is me.

vonage.com is still messed up, so is the voicemail system, don't bother calling up for those issues unless you really dig the hold music.

I hadn't thought about that. I have unlimited calling, I need music in my basement office down here, I should wait until I see stuff appear on the status page (when I know call volume will be up), and I get to listen to Vonage Music for a while. Reps would increase their call volumes, since I'd be hanging up as soon as someone answered.

Gin, does your station have Caller ID? If I get you, will you sing "White Christmas" in your best Bing Crosby voice?

Well, "better" is a relative thing. Depending on whether you really use your highspeed connection very intensively, you may - or may not - ultimately end up disappointed with that configuration.

Compared to the WRT54G, and to put it bluntly, the RT31P2 is an absolutely CRAPPY router, in terms of performance. If you don't do much with your internet connection, you may not notice, but if you do - your performance will suffer.

I'm using exactly your setup - the RT31P2 and WRT54G. My RT is behind the WRT, and everything router-related on the RT is turned OFF, so its ONLY being a Vonage adapter, and it does a pretty good job of that. I've had no troubles at all with it behind the WRT54G.

First question I'd ask is, what firmware revision are you running on your WRT54G?
