How come I can give myself vanity caller id when I use an SIP dialer? If I type in "Peek-A-Boo Showgirls Inc." the caller ID shows up on my phone as that.

On another subject, why does The Beer Shed's payphone say "BEER SHED" on the caller id Sad I called home once and said I wasnt out drinking and that showed up Rolling Eyes

Sorry for the ignorance, but I am new to Vonage. What is vanity caller ID? Is that something I can configure?

Vanity caller ID is a CID of your choosing. Just like a vanity plate that says BEER or something.

Is this a feature of Vonage? If so, how to configure this?

Hey Trinijoy,

Maybe Vonage could switch to another provider that gives the customers what they want - outgoing caller ID. Your statement, "refuses to change the outbound caller ID to anythin but "Unavailable" or "Unknown." or just make the name blank.", I mean really, that's a little rough on their part in this modern world of communications where we all have come to expect incoming and outgoing caller ID to be standard.

Anyways, thanks for your presence here on the site and for your work at Vonage. Let the engineers know that .58 so far is working very good!

I have a virtual number on my account. I would prefer that the virtual number be the one that appears in people's caller ID when I make a call. Is there any way that the virtual number and main number can be exchanged, so my virtual number can become my main number?

I also want to know if a virtual number can be transferred. I was thinking of getting a Wi-Fi phone. Can I have my virtual number transferred to a new Wi-Fi phone?

Oh! And, one more, can a Fax line have a virtual number?

Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

Virtual numbers are for incoming calls only,. they are not a physical line so in turn can't show up on outgoing caller ID.

If you are in a number transfer that virtual number for the transfer is only temporary so telling it to people really won't be sensible.

You cannot turn fax lines into virtual numbers or visa versa, it creates a HUGE problem on the CLEC's side.

Yes virtual numbers can be attached to ANY physical Vonage line only.

Virtual numbers cannot be transferred, as they are as again not a physical line in the land line swtich

What does CLEC mean? And why can't a virtual number be removed from an account, and then assigned as the main number? Isn't it all just set up in some sort of registry?

For example, why couldn't I have the virtual number on my current account be removed and assigned as the main number for a Wi-Fi phone?

Trinijoy,
Thanks for making yourself available.

Here is my problem. I get echoes on calls I make to certain phone numbers, like my mother in law. It happens with certain numbers I call, but if they call me it never echoes, just when I call them.

I can't understand why it only happens when I call someone and doesn't happen when the same person calls me., No one I talk to from Vonage can seem to explain it either.

Thanks
