Welcome to my nightmare as Alice Cooper lamented in the 70's.

To make a long story short, SBC tried jerking me around royally and I called MCI to switch. They couldn't give me what I wanted after jerking me around for about a week so I am taking the Voip plunge. Screw the POTS. I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot but I thought that Vonnage has been around long enough to have their **** together.

They recieved my LOA today and I will be happy to tell SBC to kiss my a**!

There is a land line in house so it's sort of a saftey net for power and network outages.

You won't regret the move. In 2 days it will be a month since I disconected my SBC POTS and I could not be any happier. My phone bill went from $80 to $25 and I have more features now. For backup I have a small UPS powering my cable modem and Vonage's ATA. For network outages, I can always use my cell phone.

Seems really hard to end up regretting the decision if you still keeping a backup POTS.

I could see without a POTS or cell phone, things might get a little frustrating.

The POTS does not belong to me. But it is in the house and available if needed. I will do my level best for the rest of my life to see to it that SBC or MCI never see another nickel from me. I am a consumer and I vote with my hard earned money. More people should think this way. In the industrialized world, we have become accustomed to being mistreated by big corporations.
5 years ago, I would have had no choices. Choices are here now and that is a good thing. These big companies seem to think we work for them and not the other way around. Yes, I have an axe to grind, I admit it. It's a long story and I won't bore anyone.
