I think I get what's going on here, so check this out.

I placed an order three days ago for Vonage service with local number portability. I intend to send in my documentation to effect said transfer of number when I am satified of the quality of service.

In the meantime, I've been browsing my account. I noticed yesterday that I had an outgoing call logged. This seemed odd, because I haven't received any hardware yet to make calls! I discovered that the number my wife called was that of a friend who also uses Vonage.

So, I figured that when the Vonage system saw an incoming call from my existing home number to an existing Vonage user and trapped it and thus it appeared on my call log. I imagine it may have even been applied to my 500 mins. per month, which is a questionable practice, but not the most remarkable thing.

What happened next IS an issue... upon returning my wife's call, the aforementioned Vonage user (unaware that we had signed up) called my existing home phone number. Again, it appears that the Vonage system trapped the call as being to another subscriber and tried to route the call to my "phantom" number that I was given until I get LNP.

Of course, without any hardware to have set up yet, the call went right to voice mail. Fortunately I had already set up voice mail and I received an email notification.

Interesting, huh? Anyone have an alternative explanation? I now have my first of what are sure to be many of my wife's VILE (Vonage Issue Log Entries!)

While LNP is taking place calls made from you POTS line to Vonage customers will show in in your call activity. They will not count against your 500 minutes. Calls from non-Vonage customers to your regular phone mumber will ring at your house, but calls from Vonage customers to your regular number will be routed to your Vonage ATA. Since you do not have your ATA yet, they will go to voicemail. When you get your ATA it will be programmed with the temporary number Vonage assigned to you and it can receive calls using the temp number, but if you place calls from it the call recepient will see your POTS number in their caller ID display.

Yep... makes sense to me, actually. Could you come over tomorrow night and explain it to my wife???
