Thank you for reading,

<modem,D-Link524> - - - - - D-Link Wireless Range Extender- - - - - <D-Link524,Vonage PAP2>

I know that you can bridge the routers but Is there a way to connect this setup without having the 2 PCs running all the time ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Paul

What PC's? the setup you described should work. Unless you are using the PC's internet connection sharing...clarify a little more please.

Thanks ColdGin for your reply.

I have never bridged routers before, I was under the impression that the PCs at each router had to be ON all the time.

I would like to be able to have Vonage active without powering the PCs. I know that the routers and the modem have to be always ON.

Regards
Paul

Unless your networking specifically goes through a computer, then your computers will not enter into the equation at all. Generally computers in a network are going to be the end points of the network and not in the middle.

Thank you Kamnet

Been trying all sorts of ways and cannot get it to work.

Any ideas on how to bridge 2 wireless routers D-Link 524s ?

In the Network Connections menu, I can see the router which is connected to one PC but not to the other PC.

I know that one can buy a bridge but I was told that a router can be used as a bridge.

Regards and thank you again

Some routers can be used as a bridge...generally, a setup like you describe will go something like this: Cable/DSL modem-->wireless router--------->wireless bridge--->PC (or Vonage adapter)

The wireless bridge will pick up the signal from the wireless router and pass the information on. it's not a real router because it does not route between networks or give out IP addresses, it's more or a pass thru. so If what you have is 2 routers, you could try putting them into ad-hoc mode and see if you can get the 2 talking to one another. I am not a wireless guru but what you are describing should be possible. try and read the manual a bit about ad hoc mode and see if this might help you out.
