Post subject: Bell landline?
Hi all. Sorry if this has been asked a million times but I did some searching and didn't find my answer. I currently have a Bell land line and Sympatico internet service. Can I cancel my land line with Bell for the purpose of going with
Vonage
, but still use my Sympatico service. In other words, do I have to have a land line to use Sympatico. Thx in advance.

I found a post about the naked DSL they now offer. Does anyone know if they ding you for termination fees. I've had there services for about 3 years or more. Do they constantly renew your contracts or can you cancel penalty free after a set length of time with them? Thx.

They didn't do anything to me when I dropped their landline and went with a dry loop.
Call the Sympatico Dry Loop department and they should be able to help you out. I forgot their direct number, but you should be able to ask any customer representative to transfer you.

Although you can have internet access without phone service, the telco will not do it. They will tell you that you need to have a dialtone. So, you gotta pay for something you don't need. Nice eh? Find an alternative for your ISP and stop paying these idiots who for so long have treated us like crap.

Post subject: Sympatico - Dry Loop
Yes bell offer DryLoop service for Sympatico user... but the monthly price is 44.95 per month for High Speed... So you may consider other provider!

Well, that's why "TelusSucks" as you put it. It is Telus that doesn't offer Dry Loop DSL. Bell has been offering it for a few months now. I don't know of any plans to do the same in Telus Country but I wish that they would.

My appologies. I didn't realized this "policy" had changed recently.

I had the very same concern, as I want to drop my bell landline, but keep my Sympatico DSL service. Its confusing, according to the
Vonage
website, if you have DSL with your local phone provider you must keep your existing number;
http://www.vonage.ca/features.php?feature=lnp
Q. Can I transfer my old phone number to
Vonage
if I have DSL?
A. If you have DSL service through your local phone company you must keep your existing phone number in order to maintain a high-speed connection to
Vonage
. In this instance, we will assign you a new
Vonage
number and you can begin enjoying the benefits of
Vonage
without delay.
I am somewhat confused by this statement, does this mean you must keep your landline service and get a new
Vonage
number, or that you must port your existing number to
Vonage
?
I also found these articles in the
Vonage
help;
http://www.vonage.ca/help.php?article=246&category=
http://www.vonage.ca/help.php?article=514&category=
So either the
Vonage
website is wrong and they don't know about naked dsl/dry loop from bell, or I am out of luck?
Can someone that has done this just confirm its possible and that the
Vonage
website must be wrong?
If it is possible, I would like to port my existing number to
Vonage
and drop bell landline, keeping sympatico dsl. Will I need to call bell dry loop first, or just signup with
Vonage
and they will do it for me? I just don't want to lose my dsl connection or existing number during all of this. Also, I heard bell charges a $55 cancellation/transfer fee, is this true?
Thanks

Does anyone have a confirmed answer on this? I want to sign up, but need to make sure I can keep my Bell DSL and transfer my number without losing DSL service?

Well, I tried to clarify this by calling
Vonage
support number, not much help! They seem to be confused on the issue as well. The lady I spoke to didn't seem to know if it would affect my dsl or not. She thought I should keep my existing phone service with bell, just reduce it to basic service, but I am trying to get rid of bills not just add new ones! I was not impressed with the support service, or quality of the call, I hope all
Vonage
calls are not that crappy, sounded like a one way call, worse than talking on walkie talkies!
