I was having problems when I first got my vonage.

I was having problems when I first got my Vonage. For one they gave me a virtual phone number that was long distance for my parents who live right up the street from us, in the same neighborhood. We called about it but we only had a few days left till the number transfer so we let it be.
I had trouble with dropped calls, echoing and just bad audio. I called and they had to go into my router and change the firewall settings. He said that when your computer sees the phone going over the internet, it thinks it is a internet attack and "clamps down on it" for a few seconds. He had me go in and change the settings and it appears to have fixed that problem. As for echoing he said to ask the person you are talking to, to turn down their phone volume.
My dad who doesn't have Vonage (he has verizon land line service) said he has been having problems with his modem that suscom gave him, every since they changed over to Comcast. I also saw a post on here where someone said that they had change their modem through suscom and once they did all these dropped calls and echoing disappeared. So, it makes me wonder if suscoms modems are a part of the problem.
I have heard people who swear by Vonage (people I know) and others on the internet who curse it. I hear about the same problems over and over again on the internet about Vonage. What if it that either the firewall setting need fixed or it is comcast's modems are having problems. What if it's not Vonage at all. I mean it just seems odd that all the problems are the same from what I have seen all over the internet. Then there are tons more who absolutely love it and have no problems at all.
