Vonage Reviews

Vonage folks, so, i've got two netgear wireless routers and a cable modem (comcast),

folks,

so, i've got two netgear wireless routers and a cable modem (comcast), configuration without adding Vonage router is:

cable modem -> router a -> router b, with dhcp turned off on router b so router a assigns all ip addresses. this seems to work very well, all devices on the network have good performance, wireless devices can connect to the router of their choice, and everything is on the same subnet: 192.168.0.xx. only issue is that, while i can connect to the admin page of router b, there are some setting i can't seem to modify - if i change something then save it, when i refresh the page the original setting is back again. i attribute this to the router not being directly connected to the machine i'm trying to change it from - it makes sense to me that certain functions can't be changed remotely (like wireless security settings.).

now i add my linksys rtp300 to the mix and things get a little wierd. topology:

cable modem -> router a -> router b; and router a -> linksys rtp300. no devices other than my phone connected to the linksys. here's what happens:
1) when making a phone call, i loose all internet access from any machine connected to router a! this seems really wierd given that these machines are essentially downstream from the linksys - unless the netgear is giving the port connected to the linksys priority, i don't see how this could be affecting my internet access!
2) even when i'm not on the phone, internet access seems slower than normal. there is a noticeable lag when loading pages, to the extent that some pages even time out.
3) i can no longer access some of the administration pages on router b. perhaps they are timing out too?

note that i haven't done anything to modify the lan setup on the linksys so it is still on subnet 15 (ie, 192.168.15.xx), and i am allowing router a to automatically assign an ip address to the linksys. this results in the rather strange configuration in which the linksys thinks it's at 192.168.15.1, but the netgear sees it at 192.168.0.xx, but this all seems to work.

after seeing all these problems with the linksys on my network i unplugged it and all the problems went away, so i feel confident that adding the linksys is the source of the problems. so, the question is, how can i resolve this? do i need to reconfigure my network? do i need to put all the devices on the same subnet? in particular, loosing all network access when making a phone call is unacceptable; if this can't be resolved i will have to cancel my account. any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

thanks,

joe
