enigma, tech-savvy yes, networking savvy, not really ;) enough to get by...

I can't "lose the dialtone", because then I assume I would lose my phone ability, right?

I'm not sure what static RIP routes are - I saw those options in the config of course, but I wouldn't know how to use them to do anything useful.

I can't use the vonage-router first, because it only has three ethernet ports and I have 6 and often more devices on my LAN. I realize I could plug the hub into the vonage-router, but I'm not sure how port-forwarding would work - I take it I would have to use double-port-forwarding then? Once from the linux router to the Vonage router, and then again to the destination pc - for those apps like bittorrent that don't work behind firewalls?

I thought the DMZ deal would basically turn the Vonage router into just a pass-through of some sort for one ethernet port, but it doesn't seem to expose internal to external, so I'm a bit confused just what use it has. I assume that if I used the vonage-router as my main firewall/router, that it would need to expose the internal ip to the outside, the Internet in that case, otherwise it would be pointless, lol. So why it doesn't expose it in this case is beyond me...rather, perhaps I don't get how it's presented to the external network - what ip would it have, for example? Certainly not the same ip as the router? I assumed that its internal ip would be presented externaly - that the dmz deal would forward everything from outside to in, basically just as if it were not behind anything at all.

I'm not using DHCP, btw.

PhotoJim, do you have any device plugged into your Voip router? If so, can that device get through that router and into your internal network? The vonage-router itself has access to my LAN - rather, I can ping it, etc., and it can see and use my gateway and so forth...I just can't seem to get anything behind my Voip router to see my internal network. The router itself simply makes an internal-internal network of just two nodes - that device and the router itself. For example, the laptop which I have connected to the vonage-router can access the config interface to the router using the router's internal ip, and I can ping it as well - but that's all I can ping ;)

Using the eth ports on the RT31P2 as a "hub"?

You sound tech savvy, so here we go. You can use the RT as a switch, however,

Yes, that will work but you will need a crossover cable or if the hub has an uplink
ok, the wired hub says it has a built in shared uplink port, so I would just plug an
