I would suggest a test before you even consider using your desktop for this.

Using your laptop go to the speed test on this forum as well as the http://testyourvoip.com/ speed test. For the testyourvoip test, you will want to select boston as your destination.

Then post your results. We'll know if it is even a good enough connection.

If your test turns out to be a good one, then you will want to double check it by running it a few more times. If it is still good, then you will want to go get a wireless network card for your desktop and install it. These cards usually have to be installed inside the desktop on one of the PCI card slots near the back of your desktop.
