Vonage Tip Did you know that Vonage is currently the only VoIP company that has full access to 2-1-1 (in most if not all states), an information service for referrals to health, human, governmental, and other community services? Simply pick up the phone and dial 2-1-1. Go try it out! Of course, anyone can also dial (877) 211-8667 if 2-1-1 doesn't work from their phone.
In the Forums Having CallerID trouble? You're not alone. This thread goes back to June of 2007 but continually receives new replies. If you are using the Linksys PAP2 and 50% of your calls say "INCOMPLETE DATA" on your phone's Caller ID display, then you should read this poster's reply: "I have been having the unknown caller on id periodically for some time. Yet my dashboard always showed the id. I finally got off the couch and called vonage to downgrade my PAP2V2 from firmware 1.00.22 to firmware 1.00.13. Caller id has been working fine ever since! Tech support was helpful and quick to help with this "known issue" with 1.00.22 on the PAP2V2."
In the Forums You can buy just about everything else on eBay, so why not a Vonage router? Buying stuff on eBay is fun & addictive. But the question is, should you buy a Vonage router on eBay? Well, a thread over on the forums poses that very question. The short answer is "no". You get the latest & greatest router for free when you sign up with Vonage. However, the long answer is that if you cancel within the first few months, you'll be billed for the router and/or an early cancellation fee. But why would you cancel, anyway? ;)
In the Forums Egads! ISPs charging by the byte? A two page thread is lighting up the forums about one poster who is worried that his Vonage line will cost him money since his ISP is gonig to start charging by the byte with certain bandwidth tiers. Many repliers to the post have the attitude of "Byte me!" and who could blame them? Unfortunately, in many areas you only have 1 choice of broadband provider or 2 at the most. The good news is as one poster puts it, "at 90kbps, each hour is roughly 40mb. let's say you talk for one hour every single day, in a month, that's only 1.2GB...." The tiered pricing scheme for this particular person kicks in at 30GB, 50GB, and 100GB, so the 1.2GB probably wouldn't put him into the next tier. Still, if your data bandwidth one month is 49GB, Vonage could put you over the edge into the next tier, which would add to your ISP bill.

Who needs rotary dialing with Vonage? Do rotary phones even exist except in the
backwaters of some swamp in Alabama? Well, apparently some people want the
feature - at least
according to this thread in the Vonage Forums. Go figure...
Vonage recently announced a partnership with Covad, which will enable Vonage to provide its customers with a broadband solution using Covad's nationwide DSL network. Essentially, Vonage will resell broadband packages carried by Covad after cutting a "wholesale DSL" deal with Covad. This now gives Vonage the "Double Play" bundled package that is often a competitive advantage to last-mile broadband copper/fiber owners, including the telcos and the cablecos.
The new service, called Vonage Broadband, is expected to be offered by the end of the year. Vonage will offer DSL services to both residential and small business customers.
Vonage CEO was quoted as saying, “This past quarter we spend about 27 percent of our revenue on marketing (and) we expect at the end of the year we’ll be spending between 30 and 32 percent. The company has $150 million in the bank and we’re going to use that money,” he said. This is great news for Vonage. With most if not all of the big lawsuits settled, Vonage appears to be willing to spend money to acquire customers.

Stockholders of record at the close of business on March 31, 2008 are
entitled to attend the 2008 Annual Stockholders' Meeting and vote their shares.

2008 Annual Stockholders' Meeting must present an acceptable form of photo
identification and proof of share ownership as of the close of business on March
31, 2008.
Today, we have some bad news to report for all VoIP service providers. Tom Keating gave a heads-up about South Korea wanting to ban VoIP back in 2006, including U.S. military bases and military personnel serving in South Korea and expressed his outrage over this idea. Russel Shaw (Rest in Peace) another VoIP blogger also expressed outrage over the VoIP blocking plan. Well, it appears South Korea has pulled the trigger killing U.S. servicemen's and servicewomen's ability to make inexpensive VoIP calls back to the U.S. I was just reading a Vonage Form thread about this, started by Dahak, a member of the U.S. Air Force whose Vonage service just stopped working. Some suggestions are provided, including setting up a VPN or using other inexpensive phone services. But none of these are great solutions. I'd expect this kind of VoIP blocking shananigans from totalitarian states, not a strong democracy like South Korea, which also has a very tech-savvy culture. Maybe South Korea will show some lovin' this Mother's Day and unblock VoIP just for the holiday to allow U.S. military personnel to call their moms. Wishful thinking I suppose.
