I know that there are many other, more recent, posts on this same topic. However this thread seems to have the most information.
I am a new Vonage customer as of 7/28/05 and I am already experiencing the same problem with false DTMF tones. I purchased a Linksys WRTP54G and have a good cable connection.
We called Vonage about the problem and they sent a firmware update to my device. They also told my lady to do all of this other stuff that seemed more like voodoo then technical troubleshooting. I’m a tech as well and understand that a lot of actions that work don’t always make sense. I also know that actions like restarting every piece of networking equipment in the house and the phone is a blanket action that is not likely to fix anything unless there is a problem with a device. There were a number of other rain dances that the tech asked her to do but I will not go into that here and now.
I hope this firmware update fixes things. I am really excited about Voip but problems such as falsely triggered DTMF tones are not acceptable. We may hate the telcos for taking advantage of our checkbooks but they do have the most reliable network. I have high expectations for Vonage. For me the phone should just work. We’ll see how well they measure up.
