True, it would be nice to display this information. But another aspect of the issue is that people are seeing one address on the status board and testing with 911 and 911 operators are seeing a completely different address.
I used to live in Lexington and then Georgetown. Pretty modern cities, both, and I'm sure they have the proper gear for a 911 test. Put those taxpayer dollars to work. Lawd knows Fayette charges enough of 'em! ;)
I'd call the local police and ask how 911 tests should be performed, and tell them that you want to do a test. They'll probably give you a non-emergency number to call and arrange the test with your local op center. After you make the arrangements, you hang up and immediately call 911 (or follow their instructions, of course).
There's nothing like a real, live test. In my case, I found out that:
1. My 911 calls do not get forwarded directly to my local 911 op center, they are sent to a call center somewhere.
2. The people at the call center DO have my correct name and address correct, and they are able to forward said data to my local 911 op center, and they connected me with the correct op center successfully.
So, I'd give the "E911" around here a B minus. I get through to the correct people, but only after an unnecessary delay of talking to an extra person.
I'd rather have the call dropped directly to the local 911 operator for the county (the cell companies all do it up here now). But at least I know that all I need to do is be able to push 911 and someone will be on the way, so that's good.
