Now I'm confused. It sounds as if you have the new Linksys working. But now you want to stick with the Dlink?

First thank you. Vonage tells me to call my ISP for help to set up a router. My ISP(AT&T) wants to charge me $100.00 per solution because the product(router) is not AT&T. Yes, I know some tech might circumvent this 'rule' and help anyway. I have literally hung up 16 times and called back and asked. I can not afford the $100.00. If this does not work or you(anyone) can not help me I will continute to use my dlink.

RIGHT NOW both computers are on line using the Dlink router. However, I was mistaken the dlink router sits at: 192.162.0.1. The default for the linksys model I have is 192.168.1.1. This can be verified here(http://compnetworking.about.com/od/routers/g/192_168_1_1_def.htm)

The WAN IP for the router I am no now is:
192.168.15.3
The LAN IP is:
192.168.0.1
The Dlink is set on Dynamic IP - whatever that means.

The Router works - the DLiNK. This tells me all I need to do is change the LAN IP of the Linksys to what the Dlink is now(192.168.0.1). Make the Linksys "Dynamic" and stuff should work.

RIGHT? RIGHT! WooHoo!

Or no? Does none of this make no sense and I should just stick with the Dlink because it works for now?

Here is technical information:
Is this the information a savvy(or non savvy hacker might want?). I do not care! Hopefully this helps you help me! It is all individually and uniquely password protected! I do not really know what a lick of it means. But, here it is. IF this helps you/someone help me please give me the email to paypal the $25 to

Quest is the one to port your number back. If it was ported without your permission, its called a slam and Quest should have been able to get it back within 72 hours. It isn't a case of Vonage "giving" the number back to Quest; Quest is the one that takes all the action here.

Since the setup modem>Vonage is working, the Vonage unit must be set up to handle the PPPoE issues. You want to leave that alone.

Are you sure that you're accessing the new router by typing in 192.168.1.1?? That doesn't sound right. Disconnect your router from everything else. Also disconnect a wired computer from everything else. Now plug the computer in to a LAN port on the new router. Power up the router and the computer and try to log on to the router admin page. Does 192.168.1.1 work? If not, does 192.168.15.1 work?

If it is, in fact, 192.168.1.1, change it to 192.168.2.1 .

What was the model number of the old Dlink?

You can't just plug in the old one and go, but you can register the new one on line using your Vonage account pages.

Thank you ScottZ013, your input is much appreciated. FYI I did check all my credit reports etc promptly when this situation arose, and I have Lifelock to help protect against stuff like this and have had it for a number of years. All area's came up clean. I have contacted my local police and they took my info, but like Vonage, didn't seem to be too intersted in my situation.

I will take your advice and try the Executive Response Team (ERT) and see if I can get anywhere with this. Thanks again !!!

The setup DSL>Vonage>Router>Computers, which worked before, should still be fine. Since DSL>Vonage>Computer still works, the issue seems to be with your new router. A likely problem is that both Vonage and the new router are acting as DHCP servers and are giving out conflicting addresses. For example, if Vonage is using the address set 192.168.15.xxx to assign the addresses, and your new router is doing the same, then you'll have a conflict.

If this is the problem, the solution is to change the addressing being handed out by your new router to something else, like 192.168.16.xxx . To do that, power up your new router with it disconnected from the Vonage box and plug your computer into one of the LAN ports on that router. Log on to the admin page and make the change. Power down and connect the WAN port of the router to the Vonage box. Power up in the sequence modem, Vonage, router, computer.

My Dlink router sat at:
192.168.1.1
My Link sys sits at the same location

My modem sits at

192.168.1.254

When the router is plugged in I can not access my modem.

I am running into a PPPoE issue, I believe? I am not really sure what this is. When I had my dlink router my modem handled the PPPoE. Now from reading and research it seems my router should handle it.

If this is the case I have 2 options to set my modem to:
PPP or bridge.

I have so many choices and options - I am sick.

My d-link modem worked with the same setup. It sat at the same ip as the linksys. Therefore I am inclined to believe this is a user set up issue not an IP/Port issue.

Still not close to getting this problem solved - ty for your thoughts?!?!?
----GAH!

I am not technically savvy enough to understand your advice. I think it is not right because my old setup worked and I accessed the dlink by typing the same thing I type to access my linksys(198.168.1.1)

One VERY odd thing? Although I am unable to connect to the web via browser I am somehow connected to the internet. I know this because although SLOWER torrents work and my windows 7 gadgets still update - WHAT THE HECK?

2 Errors I receive from my event viewer:
The client was unable to validate the following as active DNS server(s) that can service this client. The server(s) may be temporarily unavailable, or may be incorrectly configured. 192.168.1.1

The IP address lease 192.168.1.100 for the Network Card with network address 0x00248C4F9747 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.15.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

I am sorry to hear about your issue. I understand the frustration, but you maybe directing it at the wrong person. Someone compromised your info and I would think there is more then just Vonage to worry about. Check your bank statements and go through everything very carefully.
When you called stating that it was fraud, Vonage immediately froze the fraudulent account. By this time Qwest already released the number to Vonage. In order to have a number ported, there has to be a letter of authorization signed (eLoa). The ONLY way to get it approved is to have a copy of the previous telephone companies bill. There is certain info that is needed to get a number ported. My first concern would be to cancel all credit cards and contact the Police. Next you need to ask Vonage how the person signed up. If someone called it in, have them pull the call. It is likely that you may recognize the voice. If it wasn't recorded there's nothing you can do. Even if it was recorded Vonage may not let you hear it since its an active investigation. Since there is liability, Vonage is going to do whatever it can to investigate. As you can imagine, fraud is a huge problem. There are a lot of identity thefts going on and unfortunately you are not the only one Vonage is dealing with. I understand this is a major inconvenience, but I would use your cell as much as possible during the investigation. Remember, the investigation is not only for Vonage but to protect you as well. As far as the port out, Vonage does not hold a number and prevent it from porting. If Qwest is telling you that, they are not being truthful. The number is there for the taking. I would also ask Qwest some questions about the port out. Have them start an investigation. Also, maybe they can supply you a temporary number while this is being investigated. Finally, if you see you are not getting anywhere with Supervisors or Managers at Vonage, as to be transferred to the Executive Response Team (ERT). This group generally deals with calls that make it to the Directors and above. Good Luck.
