<blockquote>Why don't you just use an eFax service like OneSuite's MessageOne Service:

http://www.onesuite.com/products_MessageOne.asp

It's $1.00 to $1.67 per month with a dedicated phone number and all you faxes are received in your e-mail inbox.

With OneSuite you pre-Pay $10 minimum which is good for six months. I use their long distance service to make cheap international calls on my cell phone.

I've been using them for years. Highly recommended.</blockquote>

It's got to be a fax machine. A computer is not an option.

I need a dedicated line for faxing (incoming only). I will not be receiving or making voice calls with the vonage service.

Is there any difference whatsoever between the voice and fax &quot;lines&quot; that Vonage provides (e.g. are they doing anything specific to handle timing issues in the fax protocol)?

Has anyone had experiences where they could only send/receive faxes on a fax line (that would not work on the voice line)?

I nver had problems faxing with Vonage for over a year.. of course the problem occured just when they switched all of their support help to India. I have a Brother MFC-5860CN and rarely can I get a fax to go through on my dedicated Vonage fax line. When i have called Vonage for help I feel like I am beating my head against the wall.. Last technician I spoke to said that I should change my setting sso I could better recieve international faxes and that should solve my problems... Ugh I could scream. If my vonage business phone wasn't already advertised so many places then I would be tempted to call it a day....
Any help would be appreciated. So I don't have to try sending a fax 5 plus times before it goes through....

Well now you know that it's not your set up or fax machine. As I said in my first post there are several people that I cannot fax to or receive faxes from on my VoIP line. This is not a problem for me because I also have a POTS line that I switch to when faxing to these people and they call me when they want to fax to me and I switch the fax to the POTS line. I don't know of any other way around your situation. I believe that it's the fax machine on the other end. One person that I couldn't fax to had an old machine and they replaced it 2 months ago and we can now send and receive faxes over the VoIP line with no problem.

You should try all the settings and combinations to see if one will work for you. Again you should be trying several different numbers to fax to. If you are just trying one number it may never work on VoIP.

Yes - I am using a fax machine. I had already seen that page on the Hp web site. It didn't work.

I just tried the * 99 , but I still am getting the error 388!

You mentioned changing the baud rate, should it be fast medium or slow?

Also, should I try the *99 after changing the baud rate?

Thanks

Any more ideas out there?

I take it you are talking about sending a fax. How many different numbers did you try to send to? I looked at the manual for your machine and it appears that your machine has a default setting of 33600 for the baud rate.

There are two things you can try.

# 1 Put *99 at the beginning of the number you are trying to fax to. That would be *99 then 1, then the area code, then the number.

# 2 Change the baud rate to a lower setting. The information on how to do this is on page 65 of your HP user manual.

I have a different HP fax machine then you do and using *99 generally works for me. My baud rate cannot be changed but a friend told me it worked for him on his HP fax. However there are a couple of people that I cannot fax to and they cannot fax to me. I believe that is because they have older machines and their modems don't play well with a VoIP connection.

Good Luck!
