<title>Number ported before hardware arrived</title>

Most complaints on here are about the difficulty in getting numbers ported. I had the opposite problem. I ordered the number transfer and Vonage hardware at the same time. My number was ported before the hardware arrived. Fortunately I was only down 7 hours before UPS showed up. But thats only because UPS ground got it here in two days instead of their normal 4 - 5 days.

Vonage should make sure the hardware is in place before the transfer happens.

<title>Transferring my vonage-given number</title>

Years ago I read somewhere that it was impossible to transfer a vonage-given number (i.e. not transferred from another provider). Is that still the case? I'm a huge fan of Vonage, but as a business owner, I hate the thought of losing my main business number if something were to happen to Vonage.

I may have to set up a new line with the phone company, transfer that as an additional line at Vonage, purely so that I know I can maintina control of that number.

Thanks!

&amp;gt;Time Warner Road Runner / Motorola SB5101 Cable Modem / Motorola &amp;gt;VT2142-VD / Linksys BEFSR41 Router

I noticed that you have much the same set up I do -- I have Time Warner's Road Runner with a Motorola SB5101 Cable modem also (except I don't have a router). I've noticed that with my Internet connection through Road Runner, my QoS has varied dramatically. Sometimes it's as low as 40%, other times it's up to 99% Have you had that same experience, and has it caused problems with the quality of your Vonage calls?

I am toying with the idea of moving to Vonage from my current POTS provider, Cincinnati Bell. I would be interested in hearing from any Vonage subscribers from the Cincinnati area who ported their number from Cincinnati Bell to Vonage. How easily did the transfer go? Any problems to look out for? Also, what are your current experiences with Vonage? Do you regret moving from Cincinnati Bell?

<title>Comcast Residential Internal Service Unit (RISU)</title>

<guid isPermaLink="true">http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic7634.html#120350</guid>

Actually this is incorrect. The RSU is outside. the letter asking for the RISU is referring to a smaller box that is located inside the home. It can often be located in the basement, near the phone itself, or in a closet. It really depends on where it was originally installed. Do not return the RSU outside the home as this is the wrong piece of equipment.

Trying to port DR line from Comcast. Vonage can not port a main number and a DR number together, which is the only way Comcast will allow it.

Vonage requested me to remove the DR feature from the line, after doing this, Comcast placed the number in disconnected status.

I am sort of stuck here...

What is really awful is that Comcast is asking customers to switch to their DigitalVoice service, which does not support virtual numbers or DR. Just trying to do something with my DR lines before Comcast ends its regular phone service and they won't let me take the numbers.

<title>Porting number from landline account of different name</title>

Just an update, and hopefully this will help someone else down the road.

I have just successfully completed a LPN transfer to vonage from a verizon landline account that was in a different name and address then my vonage account. (same situation I described above in earlier post). You need to make sure you that you have the other account holder with you, or have their information and permission before you go through the &quot;add a line&quot; setup process. The only thing to make sure you do is where Vonage tells you to change your account name/address info (ON THE LPN FORM you fill out online) you make sure every name and address you use on the form matches the landline account you are transferring, including the 'signature' line. Thats why I recommend having the other person there or filling it out since you are basically submitting the request for vonage to obtain their number on the other account holders behalf.

I never had to change my actual vonage account info, or have the other account holder update any addresses or names on their Verizon account. The porting process worked as normal after that. Below is the LPN info. I do not know why there were two entries for carrier approved transfer, but the first time it said approved, they had the completion date 2/21, then I guess they re adjusted it to 2/25 the second entry. It took 8 days to transfer, including weekends.

FYI the number was a Verizon landline in Virginia area code 540
