Can Someone Help with my VT2542 and FTP Server

FTP requires 2 TCP connections to be functional. There is a control connection (usually on port 21) and a data connection (usually on port 20).

You will need a fairly sophisticated device to support passive FTP, unless you forward all ports > 1024 as another person suggested.

Read the RFC on the FTP protocol for more info.

I doubt that this is a Vonage issue; it sounds as if the phone is broken. To be sure, take the phone somewhere where there is an ordinary land line and check it out.

what I don't understand is, what patents did Vonage infringe on and how come there are other VOIP companies out there still in business without being sued.

The patents that Vonage infringed are dubious at best. Vonage really thought that the patents were invalid (as do I) and that they would prevail.

I tried to link some articles here and I can't get links to work. Google up patents, Vonage and then each of these companies. You'll find some very deep discussions on the topic.

When I read up on all of this stuff I really got that old feeling of "damn, someone patented breathing", but I am not a lawyer. Verizon and Sprint were the big 2 in this mess and Vonage settled with both including a license to use patents without ongoing royalty payments.

AT&T is the runt of this litter and I don't think that there is as much concern over this one.

Vonage doesn't supply naked DSL here in North America, we still have to pay for naked DSL here in Canada about $10 a month.

oooh, you said vonage have a few surprises in the next year, I hope one of those is that you can supply naked DSL/Dry Loop to UK customers, that would give British Telecom a kick up its useless ass, and allow me to get rid of my poxy BT line that I have to pay £11 extra for each month as its the only was to get DSL and VOIP in my area as we are not in a fibre cabled area.

Please copy the detailed results from the advanced tab.

Did it say why it couldn't measure jitter or packet loss? That's a new one on me.

Try a test call at www.testmyvoip.com and post the detailed results from that.

try to set up QOS in your router for priority service..

I did, I actually did that when I first started Vonage. I can't imagine that this would have anything to do with QoS.

I actually have two Vonage devices, one is for business and is a Motorola adapter. I do not have this issue with that adapter.
